Boston sports teams sure know how to lose championships. I know that the Bruins won last year, and all, but the last two Patriots super bowls and the 2010 NBA championship definitely make me want to puke.

The thing is, most teams in most cities don't even make it to the big game.

I lived in Portland Oregon for years. They have one pro sports team, the Blazers.  Residents of the city *still* talk about the early '90s like with near-tears in their eyes.

Trust me, it is much better to get to the championship game and lose, than to have nothing, year after year after year....

I'd really rather have nothing than go to the championship and lose it, EASILY.

No doubt about that.  It took me months and months to get over the 2010 loss.  Last year's loss in the playoffs healed in a matter of days.

I'm still not over 2010 tbh.

Remember when the Super Bowl used to suck every year?  The last dozen years or so have had some great, great games.

Meh, this game wasn't great.  Neither team really played great on offense or defense.

I think you can have a great game without having amazing offense or defense.  The game was close, there were big plays, and there was a lot of tension and drama.  To me, that's a great game.

I need a new screen name.  I made this name like 7 years ago on the old celticsblog because, obviously, Tom Brady and Larry Bird are my all-time favorite athletes.  Or were.  Tom Brady doesn't even belong in the same breath as Bird.  Bird was a winner, carried his team when it counted, and never went down without a fight.  You had to rip games away from him if was gonna lose.  Brady puts up some gaudy numbers against some tomato cans in the regular season, but he doesn't make plays when it matters.  I'm really beginning to hate Brady.

I guess, ultimately, you have to give credit to the Patriots for being as competitive as they were despite the fact that they only made it to the Super Bowl because Billy Cundiff missed a 35 yard field goal.

I just look at this game, much like the last time these two teams played, and I see two teams that give each other such a tough time that they both play ugly football and it comes down to who has the ball at the right time towards the end of the game.  The Giants only left the Pats with a little less than a minute to end the game, so they won.  Neither team really played like a great team.

I don't think anybody is going to look back on this Super Bowl and say either of these teams were great.

I want to see some serious changes on the defensive side. I will not watch next season if freaking Antwaun Molden is the nickle next year. I'm serious. This team needs a big shake up on defense. I'm sick of Belichick picking up players off the scrap heap thinking it'll get them a trophy. Just look back at 01, 03, 04 with their dominant defenses. Compare those years with this year's defense. Is there honestly one playmaker? Wilfork anchors that line, but I really wouldn't call him a playmaker. Don't get me wrong, he was a monster in the Baltimore game, but he's not consistent enough to be labeled as a playmaker.

No, but I think a lot of people will look back on this and say that it was a really entertaining game, especially in the second half.  I can't complain about a Super Bowl that goes down to the final minute.

I think we can say without any doubt now that winning in the regular season in the NFL means NOTHING.  All you have to do is make it to the playoffs.

Giants were a pretty bad regular season team.  9-7, gave up more points than they scored.  All they had to do was get hot at the right time.  In that sense, the NFL playoffs, like March Madness, are kinda silly.  Hard to say for sure that the best team in any given season actually wins the championship.

Meh.  I can, and will, when the final minute is so lackluster and anti-climactic.  We spent a whole season watching the Pats have a great no-huddle offense and THAT is what we get when the Pats have the ball on the 20 with one minute left?  Bleh.  Maybe it's just because I'm a Patriots fan, but I thought that was a pretty lame 4th quarter.  It was a decent game up until the 4th, and then it was pretty boring.  The only truly exciting play in the game was that really close Giants catch on the sideline on their final touchdown drive, and that doesn't even compare with Helmet Catch.

Yes, it's because you're a Pats fan. ;)

I had serious doubts for a large part of this season, (due to the horrendous defense early on), that the Pats would even make it to the playoffs, so everything beyond that to me has been icing on the cake.

I still wanted this as much as anyone though, and it really stings, but I'm very proud of how this team pulled itself together and came back from big deficits to make it to the Big Show.

Many of these kids will be even better next year, and guys like Hernandez, Gronk, Woodhead, Chung, Arrington, McCourty, Moore, Mankins, Ninkovic, etc., are only going to get better.

Vets like Wilfork, BJGE, Edelman, Welker, and even Branch and Brady, have still got plenty of game left, and I'd be surprised if this team doesn't make a serious run at the Bowl again next year.

I love this team as much as ever, and while I'm heartbroken at this loss, and disappointed at the level of play on both sides of the ball, I still feel priveleged to be a New England Patriots fan.

Now, no more sports news for me for at least a week. ;)

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
PS: It sucks to live in NYC right now.
 :-[

Jerseys not too fun either.

I got the same stomach problem as outcry right now.

I swear if Welker held onto that 1st down in the 4th, we win that game. Argh.

Just like Samuel in 2007...and the Manningham catch was ridiculous, parallelled only by the Tyree catch.

Seriously, the Family Guy that is on right now is the one with Tom Brady and the Silly Nannies?? You have to be kidding me...

Meh.  This team will win 11-14 games again next year and then fall short of a championship again.  It will take a complete rebuild of this patchwork defense for the team to have a real shot.
