Rondo + Bradley + Howard = NBA record low opponents PPG.

Interesting, it seems to me that KG and Howard are very complimentary players and Howard could make another year of KG reasonably successful. Howard can shut down post options while KG harasses big men with perimeter games. Offensively KG would not crowd Howard in the post. This may be the one circumstance where I would like to see KG for another year.

I suspect KG's cap hold would complicate matters, though we could take care of that before signing Howard.

the problem as always with projecting lineups with both rondo and howard in them is the lack of shooting.  you'd really need to surround them with 3 really great shooters who can also hit free throws at a high percentage.

KG would seem to be a decent fit next to Howard, but I think the best kind of 4 to put next to Dwight is one that can extend to 3 point range.

Would be so happy to sign Dwight any one in hear that wouldn't want him is nuts. If we could bring KG back for low money then Dwight would have no choice but to listen to him. I think Dwight is would kill to be on a team with the swagger that Boston has. Also we have a lot of cap to play with next season then after that paul is off the books and then again more money to play with at which point our main blocks of Dwight and rondo are 29 and 27
I must have missed something. Howard may like to joke, but so does Pietrus. Neither of them are like Lebron though who acts up on the sidelines during games. I have never seen any problems with Howard's dedication or focus on the court. KG has much odder antics than Howard.

I find it hard to question the motivations of a guy who is so clearly defense first.

Seems like Ray, Paul and KG fits your criterion perfectly haha especially if guys like Pietrus and Green really do want to come back, they are two large quality defenders at their positions who can shoot the long ball. If Bass comes back, he doesn't have 3-point range but can't be left open from 18-20.

Not saying he acts up all the time.. But He sometimes is known as a joker, He is always smiling on the court and some people think he doesn't take the game as serious as he should.. I am just saying I think having KG on his side would bring out the best of him.

The lineup requires Bradley to improve from 3. It is definitely possible for him. Rondo has improved with the midrange, and KG shoots usually about a foot in from 3, which is not much of a difference. Bass would be bad with him. Pierce would be a good compliment.

To some degree, I am willing to sacrifice some offense in order to watch a historically stifling defense. Imagine Bradley's ball pressure with Rondo playing the passing lanes and Howard (and KG) stopping penetration when gambles don't work. Howard can stay back when his man sets picks since Bradley so easily makes it around picks. Would be fun to watch the defense, though their games would be considered 'ugly'.

the big question is whether Howard's happy disposition leads to worse outcomes. I am skeptical of that. I would be more concerned if he was a scoring wing a la Vince Carter who needs to be on attack mode. Howard seems to be pretty focused on defense. He will probably never be a trash talker like KG, Pierce, or Kobe.

He will never be able to change the fact that he is a happy person who smiles a lot. That is his personality. But he doesn't seem to lack intensity at what he does. Perhaps it would help if he would demoralize opponents more, but he is who he is. You can't make everyone into jerks.

It sounds like you think the perfect fit for him would be the Magic themselves...

I think ideally you'd want a pg to have some range if paired up with Howard but I still think Rondo would be light years ahead of most pgs matched up with Howard and I think defensively would add a huge element as well.

The real problem is that neither of them can shoot free throws (Howard has also regressed notably this season), which means you can't give them the ball towards the end of a close game. It's a shame, really.

Agreed.  They'd have had that with Shaq and Rondo last year as well, but still it would be less than ideal--and could help open Danny to considering other All-Star for All-Star trades with Rondo.

the Big 3 from a couple years ago fit my criteria.  I think they'll be too old to rely on next season and beyond.  Dwight will want to sign with a team that can offer a long term core.

He's just being polite and blowing smoke for the Boston writers.  He has no interest in joining this team.  He probably figures he can't do much with a 35 year old Pierce and a top 10 PG (Rondo).  He's probably right.  The team would need a lot more to be a contender.

Wow! One of the main arguments for the notion that Dwight Howard or other superstars aren't landing in Boston is that they have all expressed no interest in being Celtics.  It's been written so many times that people actually believe that Dwight Howard has said that he doesn't want to be a Celtic.

Now he says that he would consider Boston, and you say that he's just making it up, and he would never want to play here.  This is all based on your intense pessimism about this team, one that I can understand Dwight Howard not sharing.

  Welcome to celticsblog.

Dudes... If Dwight had any serious interest in playing for this team, we'd be one of the handful of teams on his public list of squads he'd accept a trade to. Call it pessimism.  He clearly was blowing smoke for the Boston writer, showing respect for the franchise and keeping his options open.   He wants to be a laker

If he really wanted to come here he would have put BOS on his list of teams he'd sign an extension with.

And where is this list? Can we see it? Have you seen it? Let's see this supposed list that says "I HATE BOSTON" scrawled all over it.

Seriously, the cognitive dissonance among some of the people here is ridiculous.

"DWIGHT HATES BOSTON, HE SAID HE DOESN'T WANT TO COME HERE!"
"He just said he would."
"HE'S LYING!!!!!!!"

If Dwight actually does sign here, these same people are going to be saying it was a mistake to sign him, and that he is a horrible player.  ::)

My God, how people love to shoehorn evidence to their preconceived notions. The whole "NO FREE AGENTS LIKE BOSTON" thing is REALLY getting old. No matter how many times it is shown to be BS, the same people keep trotting it out, smugly pointing at Chris Paul as if that situation were somehow indicative of every free agent in the league.
you said it. I share these feelings...husfava, breathe my friend.
