If he wants to win there are a bunch of teams that would give him a better shot than Boston.

New Jersey, for one.

Yeah, I think people got cold on Dwight going to New Jersey because of their struggles this year...but I think they're still the leading candidate to land him.  Him and Deron have said they want to play together

If we can some how keep KG and sign Dwight Howard, our defense will be tremendous for  half a decade.

If we could add another wing defender (Jeff Green, Pietrus or trade for Tony Allen?) to pair with Rondo/Bradley...man....

So we go from no chance to miniscule chance.

exactly

Our best chance to land Dwight is to.

1. Push the idea of ray and KG sticking around for 1-2 more years. The big three play limited minutes while Dwight and rondo (and young players) carry this team in the regular season then they make a big run in the playoffs. Then when pierces contract is running out dwight and rondo can lobby to find there third star looking for a ring.

2. Have Russell work on selling dwight on the idea of how many rings the leagues most dominate defensive/rebounding center can win while player along side the league best passing PG. (NO one else has that pitch up there sleeve)

KG and DHow for 5 more years? You really think KG has more than one more year left in him?

  • It's all about the TEAM!
I think another nugget of contract negotiations in our favor would be to whip them again tonight at their own home.

Eh, we may or may not land him. It doesn't matter. But if we're impressive even when we're supposed to be done, cooked and finished, it might just give him just another morsel to think about.

Another way to rephrase this conversation...

If Danny called Dwight Howard and offered him $75 million dollars, Dwight wouldn't hang up on him, cuz $75 million is a #@$%# load of money but he also wouldn't necessarily take it since two or three other NBA teams will also offering him $75 million (or $80 mil or $90 mil...whatever...it's a lot) cuz he wants to win his way, whatever that means.

This doesn't make me terribly optimistic.

lol.  I can see DA doing exactly this routine at the Celtics facility this morning while drinking his coffee and reading the Herald online before responding to email.

Wait why would the nets be better for howard if he wants to win?

On what planet is howard on the nets a better team than howard on the celtics?

I think Dwight is a liar. He has been giving these mixed signals to Orlando for years. He just likes the attention he gets when he makes these comments.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Every free agent says they'll listen when teams call.  It's their career we're talking about.  I can think of a lot of places I wouldn't want to work but if the phone rang and they started talking dollars and benefits I would definitely listen.

How can anyone not be happy about this? Sure, Howard is likely not comming here, but his comments are a great sales pitch to all players right before our biggest offseason in ages. We need people outside the clerics organization to make public comments about how great the celtics organization is for players that want to win. He could just as easily said I like doc and the celtics but that team is too old for me

I certainly see it as a positive. Even if it is fluff, he didn't have to say it.

for some reason, I think BBD is doing work in Orlando...

that trade beside getting a better player in Bass, was sending BBD as our representative ;)
