 Luol Deng.

With Deng possibly out for the season. The Bulls want to win and win now, they with Deng healthy were about the third or fourth best team in the league.

With Pierce this year they are the second best team, and with Pierce maybe the best.

As great as D Rose is, IMO if he is the only go to guy on the team they will not win it all. Not now, not with Deng, not with Boozer, those guys are good but not great. Pierce at the end of games is great.

With the options of Pierce at the elbow, Rose slashing to the rim, and Boozer inside, as well as Korver and Rip from the outside, that's an offense I can believe in.

The question is, is it worth it to have a good shot at one or two rings, to sacrifice being a good team for years to come.

Everyone would do this correct? A question is would you give up Paul and a first for 26 year old Deng?

Can the Bulls even trade an injured player?

Deng is signed for 3 years.  Pierce is signed for 3 years.  They make about the same money.  Pierce will likely continue to be better than Deng for those 3 years...

So what does this really do?  It's not bringing us a title.  It's not helping our rebuild much.  It's similar to the Rudy Gay and Danny Granger trade ideas... we take a step back in the short-term and a step back in the long term.

The only Pierce trade that makes sense is one that brings back an EXPIRING contract (so we rid ourselves of his 16.7 mil and have more flexibility) + either a young prospect still on his rookie contract OR a 1st round draft pick (preferably both)

We traded Marquis last year after his injury.

It's not terrible, but no I wouldn't do it. I don't see Deng as an upgrade over Pierce this year or next. He's injury prone (and currently suffering an injury that might require surgery), and doesn't have any elite skills. Yeah he's a bit younger, but at best I see him as an upgrade in a couple of years when he'll be well overpaid ($14M) and possibly on the decline.

I could be wrong, but I think Chicago is the side that would have to sweeten this deal. They'd be getting out of paying Deng in 2013/14, and increasing their chances of getting a title this year or next. We have all the leverage.

yes... they'd have to include their 1st round pick and the protected 1st rounder they own from Charlotte.

Agree, and that expiring can be either this year or next, so we will have cap flexibility both in '12 (Ray, KG, JO) and '13 (PP trade asset).

AlJeff comes to mind and gives us rebounding and scoring. Al Jeff and one of Utah's picks (either GS's or their own) or maybe Hayward.

Gives Jazz veteran leadership they lack and a go to player in Pierce which makes them a contender now.

Doesn't have to be this, though. Could be to Bulls for Asik, Brewer, Korver and Chicago's protected Charlotte's pick or the Bulls #1 (Korver and Brewer expire next year and Asik to build with.

Also, Noah, Korver and Brewer work, but not sure Bulls give us picks with Noah included.

These are just three examples of getting youth and expirings in '13 for PP.

Yeah... I dunno if they'd give up big al and hayward for Pierce.   You could try to sweeten the deal by giving them Pierce AND Ray and taking back Big Al and Hayward.   It works, because Utah has a 10 mil trade exception...

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7c2co7k

But I don't think that really makes sense from Utah's perspective.  The only reason they'd take back Ray or Pierce is if they wanted to try to win NOW.  Dumping Big Al doesn't help them with that... I mean unless they think they are best off playing significant minutes to Favors and Kanter.

Ray for the trade exception and a late 1st rounder makes the most sense.

I would only trade pierce straight up for gay as a realistic trade. I think gay could become an all star playing with rondo. Nash and kidd definitely took marions career to another level while at Phoenix. I an see rondo doing the same for gay.

Deng is damaged goods.   While I would like to block MIA from winning this isn't worth it.

I love Deng but he is no where near the same level as Pierce...Even at this point in Pierce's career. Like someone said... We would have both of them for three years and they would probably give us the same production. In that case, I would much rather see Pierce stay in green for his career.

This is my first time posting, Paul Pierce Straight up for no one, have you all lost your minds?!? The only one I would trade for is retired, Bill Russell. Come on Pierce IS the Celtics if you are ANY kind of fan. And Rondo straight up for no one while I am at it, the C's will be ready for playoffs, Rondo is Mr. Playoffs... are you serious??? Bandwagon fans should not be able to post on here.
