I'm not sure what the numbers are now as far as PPG scored against him compared to previous years or what not but hasn't he been great. I think he's thriving in our system and can only get better defensively.

I always hear the knock that he's not good on that end well I'm not seeing it

From what I've seen, Bass has been late on some rotations and we've given up layups at the rim.

I've also seen that Bass gets out of position on 1 on 1 defense and he'll have his back or his side defending the offensive player....which is not good!

He can't defend C's either like Davis.  That being said he has been a pleasant surprise and our best bench player.

When I saw this thread, my first thought was the Suns game where he raced out to the perimeter and blocked a three-point attempt.

I don't have any concrete evidence to back this up, but my observation is that he's been getting steadily better since becoming a Celtic.

I think the missing rotations stuff was to be expected early on as he was learning to play within the system and with his new teammates.  He really seems to have cleaned that up quite a bit of late.

It's a small sample size, but Bass currently ranks 17th best in PPP allowed.

His issue has always been as a team defender. I recall reading an off-season interview with Stan Van that after two seasons he still couldn't trust Brandon to know all of the team's defensive schemes.

Yup, he's doing better than Davis did last year in terms of defending his man.

But his rotations aren't as good and he goes for the shot block instead of taking a charge. His offense has come back down to earth the last week or two of games, but thats due to his shoot more jumpers overall and getting less dunks along with a dip in his FT%.

I'm still very happy with him over Glen Davis.

what he said, i see improvement, he (to me) is going from a 2 dimensional player, rebounding and scoring, to a 3d guy, don't think the passing will ever be there but as long as he swings the ball quickly that is all we can ask

Brandon's shot is money. If he never passed the ball again, I am fine with that. Black holes are only a problem when they can't finish.

He may not be the best defender, but the Cs don't need him for that. They need his scoring and hustle off the bench.

I read the feed of live fan comments during the Orlando game on their SBNation blog. Based on what they saw in this game, they were happy about the defensive upgrade over Bass in that they got Davis. To each their own, I guess.

Bass is a great bench player. Having said that, I would never want to pay him big money or make him a starter.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.
