Preferably with an outside link? I've seen a lot of conflicting information posted on this board, and I have helped (incorrectly maybe) regurgitate some of it at times.
I also have a specific question. Suppose, for example (just to use real numbers, not because I think this will happen or is something we should do, so please don't get sidetracked) the Mavericks amnesty Brandon Haywood in a quest to sign Howard and Deron. As we will be under the cap, we are allowed to place a bid on Haywood's contract, and if we win, he's ours. How does this bid work? Currently Haywood is owed $8.3mil next year, $9 mil in 2013, $9.8 mil in 2014, and has a team option for 2015.
Is our bid how much we pay of his 2012 salary, and we're on the hook completely for all of the other seasons? Is our bid how much we pay each season, and the Mavs pay the rest? Is our bid something else? What becomes of the option year (assuming the Mavericks pay part of future seasons?) How about incentives that he earns? And what are the cap ramifications for us? Does Haywood take up an amount of cap space equal to his salary, our bid amount, or something else?
Thanks, and I'm sorry if this is already elsewhere. I searched under amnesty, but there are just too many threads with that word. A stickied thread with the new CBA rules and the amnesty rules would be wonderful, especially as it seems Larry Coon's site has not been updated for the new CBA.
