I just had to laugh when I saw this in today's game thread:

Keyon Dooling (knee) day to day
Chris Wilcox (calf)  day to day
Rajon Rondo (wrist) day to day
Ray Allen (ankle)  day to day

I really hate the way the Celtics never come clean about injuries. Dooling has missed 6 games and Wilcox 5. I guess they are still day-to-day though.   ;D

You know whats funny, is if they do give you a definite return date you scream when they aren't back by exactly the schedule they mention.

When they are more vague (because they likely don't know) you scream that they're lying as well.

Heads they're liars, tails they're incompentant and the schtick is getting very old.

This is not a C's thing.  This is what Day to Day is in professional sports.  It means that the injury is not serious enough that they can be ruled out for multiple games, but they also are not healthy enough to play.

Exactly.  The fact is, Doctors and trainers are not psychics.  And a lot of these "minor" or nagging injuries are nearly impossible to project a timeline on.

It's just that I could have sworn I remember a day when the team doctor would say "two weeks" and that's pretty much what it would end up being.  Nowadays a Celt gets hurt and they're like "Pick a card. Any card. Oh you don't like it? You're so spoiled"

Well, that still happens.  But it happens with injuries with an easier diagnosed timeframe of recovery.

But when you are talking about these little nagging injuries, it is a lot harder to project that.

Just about to say that.  A lot of people on here seems to think day-to-day means a couple days.  It's really just how they're evaluating it, you literally check it every day for inflammation until you can play without any pain or swelling.

This is different from actual damage, where they know for a fact that the body part must be rested or immobilized for an estimated amount of time so it can heal before you start testing it.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

ESPN made this famous...

"He's day-to-day...aren't we all?"

Injuries don't have due dates - they are approximates, and many variables.  We'll see those guys when we see them...

The bottom line is they are awful when it comes to public relations and injuries. In my experience, when a player gets injured and the team says it is day-to-day, it usually means a player is going to miss a game or two. Shaq was day-to-day for 4 months. Just ridiculous. Danny would have been a great editor of Pravda back in the day.

So if day-to-day means the injury is not serious enough for players to be ruled out for multiple games, how has Dooling missed 6 games and Wilcox 5 with their day-to-day injuries? At some point, doesn't two weeks become more than day-to-day?

On the other hand, maybe this is the way every team handles their injuries. Not sure.
