Just wondering if anyone knows why, as he's shown he's a player.

This. I think Danny already had a trade in place that he couldn't undo. Now why did he have that deal locked in in the first place? I have no idea

1.  Danny liked JuJuan Johnson at least as good for our team;

2.  The Celts picked up a 2nd rounder from NJ;

3.  The Celts saved money.

We never intended to keep Brooks.  Drafting him was just a way to pick up a future asset for free.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I think Boston traded the rights to him, because they both at once knew how good he would look in the first 15 games of the season, and at the same time understood just how little time JaJuan Johnson would see the floor for the C's, being stuck behind two clearly better players in Garnett and Bass, so ownership saw a perfect opportunity to purposefully antagonize Celtics fans.

The NBA is weird, the trade wasn't "official" so Boston picked for New Jersey. Like in the NFL when a team trades up to get someone, that is what NJ did I believe but it wasn't "official" so it was still Boston's pick technically... we never had rights to him I believe.

Don't get me wrong, I like Brooks but hes not this good. The Nets need someone besides D-Will to supply their offense. Brooks will end up becoming a solid player in the league but not the star we're making him out to be. Nothing wrong with that...

My theory is that Ainge wanted to draft Johnson.  He thought Johnson would be available later, so he could acquire a second-round pick by moving down in the draft and taking the risk that Johnson would not be there.

He had a tentative deal in place with the Nets, probably contingent upon Brooks or another player they wanted still being available.

You might as well complain that if Ainge wanted to draft a big to fill a positional need, he should have taken Jon Leuer instead.

That would be a legit gripe, too.

Mistakes are made by every GM on every draft day.  Second-guessing specific draft picks is unfair if you ask me.   View Danny broadly as compared over time with other GMs and I think he'll fare reasonably well.

Maybe if we trade Allen for him people will stop complaining about it!

Has anyone been making it?
