Rubio is playing well but at this point in his career he is definitely not better than Rondo. Maybe 3 or 4 years down the line but I take Rondo 10 times out of 10 at this point.

Other than the three there's not much if anything there that would be more than a run of the mill play for Rondo. I haven't seen much of Rubio, but I would hope he's capable of much more than that to warrant all the praising I've seen.

Rubio can't rebound like Rondo can, nor play defense

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Watching Rubio play when he's hot is just plain fun. He's got a stilted hesitation-based game that will remind you of Brandon Roy kinda, when he's trying to penetrate. Kind of like Nash as well.

And his passing looks so effortless, you have to watch twice to see just how good his court vision and awareness are.

That said, he's not better than Rondo yet. But, its a great time to be a T-Wolves fan.

Whenever I see Rubio highlights I expect to hear Freebird playing in the background.

Rubio's shot looks almost like a set shot.  Very weird.  Actually reminds me of Pau Gasol's shot.

I agree that Rondo is the better driver and defender, and he's obviously a lot faster than Rubio.

You have to give Rondo credit for having an actual resume of coming up big in big games, and for being the toughest player in the league in terms of dealing with injuries (except for maybe Kobe).

I think it says a lot about Rubio that there's even a discussion to be had about this, though.  I think ultimately the better player comparison for Rubio will be Jason Kidd.  He seems to have that sort of game.  Rondo is more like a better passing / worse scoring Gary Payton.

From the little I've seen he's not a better passer than Rondo.

Rondo seems to hit more of his shots at the rim and more of his mid-range jumpers. So, aside from those, probably true.

Yeah, that's probably an exaggeration, though I haven't seen him pass much.  I will say he has one of the best bounce passes I've ever seen, and he's also got great hands for making misdirection / no-look passes.

Assuming Rubio has a lot of room to grow as a player, it shouldn't be long before he's a better passer than Rondo.  He's a young rookie and yet he's already one of the best passers in the league.

I guess technically a layup is a shot.

Hey. Turns out Rubio averages well over a half a steal more a game than Rondo. Gets more blocks too, but they both don't get many.

Hard to say how much he'll grow, he's been playing pro basketball for 6 years or so.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Amazing court vision he has. I love the fact that once a dude is open he finds it, and on time.

His defense is still pretty suspect though, so he's no Rondo. Skill wise,  I think I could say they are on par.
