This would be a shame for the Boston Celtics, Pierce is a legend, he is a institution in Boston, do not understand.

 Are we crazy?

What´s more important to the fans around here, the Boston Celtics or Paul Pierce?

If trading away PP is good for the Celtics I say do it!

I think the Sonics and Wolves fans feels the same when KG and Ray arrived here.

Maybe the Wolves. Ray was a Buck before. They didn't give enough to win with those two so I think the fans are happy for them for having a chance at making a legacy.

Now really is the time.  It's brutal to watch them age at the same time. Slow to the ball, getting shots blocked, turnovers.  Dulled senses.  We need to move now before we are spoon feeding them farina.  Glad we have a GM with the nads to do what needs to be done.  Glad he has the hindsight of the never came to fruition Bird and McHale trades to reflect upon.  Go to work Danny.  Now is the time.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I understand why people want to do it, and I won't be angry if Danny pulls the trigger, but it better be for something VERY good in return.
I think Pierce still has a good 2 years left in him.
He is expensive but we will have so much room next year to play with.

NBA GM's seem to think he's got some good stuff left in the tank if they are calling and asking about his availability.

Not down with moving him though. I wanna see him in the front row of every game next to Bill Russell and co for the next 20 years as a Celtic icon.

I just can't see us getting anything back in return for his true overall value to this organisation after everything he's done/given- and vice versa.
Celtics legend who should be a Celtic for life.
I couldn't ever see Dallas shopping Dirk or LA shopping Kobe.

I personally hope they keep him.
Move Ray and KG if it must be done.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I think the only real chance the C's have of not being bad for the next 4-5 years is unfortunately if they can move Pierce in such a way that they free up that cap space.  By my guess, he's already moved quite a bit in that direction in the last couple of weeks by leaking the possibility in the press to show Wyc that the TD Garden wouldn't burst into flames at the mere suggestion of it and thus getting ownership's blessing while starting discussions.

I don't think it is the Boston weather or history or Doc, Danny or the ownership that has kept DH and the other big fish from wanting to land in the relatively small, cold Boston pond.

IMO it is 2 or 3 factors:

1) that the Fossilized Three are still here, guaranteeing that Boston is a declining team and still 'somebody else's' team,

2) that there hasn't been a clear path to immediately getting three in-their-prime All-Stars onto it, and

3) maybe also that Rondo is just a little too weird a guy and not to the social taste of DH and his like.  (Though as others have noted Josh Smith could be the glue here.)

If Danny can clear out #1 and somehow create a path to #2, possibly via swapping out #3 I think the whole game changes.

And, the right sort of dumping (sorry) of Pierce's contract could make that happen, since it could open up the cap space for two max deals.  Yes, it's still a long shot, but getting the C's into that position is a favorable enough situation anyway that it only makes sense for Danny to try to do it.

I have to wonder how many lived through the rebuild of the 90s.   This is a business and we are not a free agent mecca.  Better to get something than get nothing.   Oh yeah, at least we would have our integrity that will help us win....

through the 70's rebuild  ;)
it is a business but what makes the celtics family different is that we keep guys like paul
hey didn't whine and force a trade when he certainly could have prior to kg, ray & rondo
i think danny never got over the fact that he was the guy traded for eddie & joe because he was easily replaced compared to an aging bird or mchale

It was also a shame to see Allen Iverson get shuffled out of the NBA after being trading around and then ignored. Teams have to move on.

Can't we just bring Gerald Green back?
