wow, trade ideas get more ridiculous by the day.
is this what the forums are gonna be like throughout the rebuilding process?
Sure I agree, this is not equal talent wise in any way. However isn't this close to the ideal scenario for moving one of the big three? As many have pointed out, our best asset of the big three is Pierce since he probably is the best player with the most left. Garnet and Allen's value is stunted by their inability to create for themselves, and their obvious age/decline (Garnett more his decline, Allen more his inability to create own shot IMO).
Therefore, most of Garnett's value on the trade market comes from his giant expiring contract. So the celtics basically have two options to be very good next year. 1. Wait it out and chase Howard in free agency 2. Try and trade this season for another very good player.
Besides the cap maneuvering Ainge would have to do to get Howard (even if he wanted to come here), i don't think he wants to come here. The other big name FA, Deron Williams would obviously result in us trading Rondo, maybe another option for another day.
For the Knicks, if they feel it isn't working, if they feel PG is their biggest and most important weakness, if they are worried about Amare's Back/Age/contract, they could move him for a PG, or they could move him for the cap space to sign Deron Williams in the off season. Not many teams besides the celtics have a couple of giant expiring contracts (Dallas, PHX, and ironically Dwill's Nets could make it work, so possibly a straight up trade with them but that leaves NJ with just Stoudemire and no cap room)
The Knicks are not going to move Chandler, they just signed him. I also don't think they will move Melo after all the bologna they went through to get him, also Melo/Chandler is pretty enticing for free agents.
In this trade, NY is selling low, always a bad idea, but not something that we haven't seen.
Does that respond to the "ridiculousness" of the trade idea?
