The Jazz are currently the 5th seed.  Jefferson and Millsap are playing very good right now.  If they think they can make a good run this season, maybe they would be interested in this trade.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7hj34oa

Boston trades
Pierce
Ray (trade exception from Williams trade)

Utah trades
Favors (I know, makes this unlikely)
Miles
Bell
Hayward
and a conditional 1st.  (It turns to a 2nd if the Jazz do not get out of the first round of the playoffs)

For the Jazz, they get two players that know how to win.  Two players that step in and become leaders to this team.  Once Pierce gets healthy, the Jazz will have one of the scarier offensive starting lineups.

For the Celtics, a real shot in the arm for rebuilding.

It really depends on what the Jazz think of Jefferson, Millsap and Kanter.

But yes, I do think this trade is a longshot.

They traded D-Will for Favors, and Hayward is a recent lottery pick.  That's a ton of value to give up for Pierce and Ray.  Even with Pierce and Ray, it's unlikely the Jazz would really contend this season; after this season, they'd be worse off than they are now.

Utah wants to get rid of Harris & you have 'em trading everyone but Harris.

If we would trade PP & Allen, it'll probably look like this:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6pgz8vc

And Boston would have to add a pick or two.

Stop using the trade machine

Miles:  3.7 Mil
Favors: 4.4 Mil
Bell: 3.2 mil
Hayward: 2.5 Mil
= 13.8 mil

Pierce + Ray = 25 mil.   Does that work?

For the record, I'd do this trade...

I just don't see how you can trade 25 mil in salary and take back 14 mil if the Jazz are over the cap...

Did they change the rules in the new CBA as far as matching salary??

• 2005 CBA: Teams over the cap can acquire no more than 125 percent plus $100,000 of the salaries they trade away. A team can receive up to $3 million cash in any trade.

• 2011 CBA: Taxpaying teams can acquire no more than 125 percent plus $100,000 of the salaries they trade away (same as 2005 CBA). Non-taxpaying teams (based on their post-trade salary level) can acquire up to the lesser of 150 percent plus $100,000, or 100 percent plus $5 million of the salaries they trade away. The cash a team pays or receives in trade is limited to $3 million annually.

EDIT:  OOOH... The Jazz have a 10 mil trade exception from trading Okur?  Wow.  Ok.  Awesome.  Add them to the list of my "reasonable trade partners".

Ray straight up for the trade exception + 1st round pick  ... Do it

My recently published Jazz trade makes more sense for both sides.

Utah presently have the #6 pick in the upcoming draft. I would certainly go for that pick for Ray Allen. Haywood would be a good choice as a player in the deal.

I would try to spread out our trades to as many teams as possible and request an unprotected first round pick.
Other teams to look to for picks and players would include New jersey; Golden State(JO or KG)  Milwaukee (PP)  Memphis(KG) and Minnesota (PP)

of course the Lakers would be on the list for PP but they would only have mid-first round picks

Utah owns Jersey's pick?  I imagine that's too much to give up for Ray Allen.  Probably too much to give up for Paul pierce as well.

I agree with wdleehi here... if the jazz are looking to make a run this year, they might be willing to give up a prospect or two for Ray and Pierce.   They have a lot of prospects.  Kanter is 19 years old, Hayward is 21 years old, Favors is 20 years old... and they have draft picks.   It seems it would make far more sense for Utah to build around that youth, though.

If they decide to go for a run this year, maybe trading their Okur trade exception for Ray would make sense.  MAYBE we can get their late 1st round pick out of them.  Doubt we could get Favors, Kanter or Hayward, but I'd be thrilled if we could.

Actually, Utah owns Golden State's 2012 1st rounder via Jersey, not the Net's pick outright. The pick is top-7 protected this year, and next.

Assuming for the sake of discussion that the pick wound up in the 8-10 range for this year's draft, would people consider trading Rondo for the pick and Harris?

It's similar to Green 18 above, but I think better for us, even though it gives them Rondo instead of Ray.

"I think that we are good trading partners with Utah. Don't think that they give up any young bigs though (Favors and Kantner are pretty much untouchable.)They have thought about moving BigAl or Millsap and recently Deven Harris.

Boston gets: Big Al or Millsap, Deven Harris, Hayward and GS's 1st rounder and Utah's 1st rounder.

Utah gets:Paul Pierce and Rondo

http://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/5999324

Why for Jazz: Utah needs a point guard for now and the future and are in need of a veteran presence to be a contender for the next year or two. They have a lot of good young talent. They just need someone to distribute (RR) and someone to lead (RR and PP).

As wdleehi suggested in an earlier thread  http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=52590.0, if Utah wants to make a playoff push this year and next this should be real attractive to them.

They get to keep all their younguns except Hayward. With PP, they don't need Hayward right now. They also get a point guard of the future who is a great distributor, which Harris is not.

Why for Boston: Maintaining cap flexibility and getting 1st round draft picks.

We still have KG and Ray's and JO's contracts expiring at the end of this year. Harris and Big Al expire at the end of next year. This gives us many more options with our cap both this year and next.

The two first round picks speak for themselves. Utah's will be late 1st, but Warrior's pick could be lottery. We would then have 4 1st rounders this year AND Hayward. Talk about pieces for the future that we can either use ourselves or trade.

Does Utah do this? Do we?"

I dont' like Harris at all.  If we were to also receive one of their other prospects (hayward, Favors or Kanter), it would make it more appealing.

Both of you guys have trades revolving around the Celtics taking back Big Al or Paul Millisap... Frankly that doesn't make sense from Boston's perspective.  It just "stops the bleeding" by bringing in mediocre players to ensure we'll stay mediocre.

Wdleehi's trade is about blowing up this team and preparing for the future with prospects, cap space and draft picks (while ensuring we suck enough short-term to land a top pick).  Which is why it makes a lot more sense from Boston's perspective.

If Deron WIlliams couldn't win a title with Millasap AND Big Al... Rondo isn't going to win a title with one of them.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Harris either.

But his contract expires after next season, so he'd be an attractive trade chip later on.

If we trade Pierce and Rondo for the package I proposed that includes  Harris along with Al or Milsap and two 1sts and Hayward, we are getting a youngun (Hayward)  2 picks and 2 contracts that expire nextyear.

That will mean that big $$$ comes off two years in a row. in '12 Ray and KG and in '13 Harris and Jefferson.
