Ray Allen + Brandon Bass + Jermaine O'Neal + E'Twuan Moore

for

Lamar Odom + Shawn Marion + Roddy Beaubois + Ian Mahinmi

Celtics get two cheap young prospects and a couple decent veteran roleplayers on short / non-guaranteed contracts.

Mavs get two valuable players on expiring deals (doesn't eat into their capspace), an old but not totally useless backup center, and a young SG for filler.

Could throw in the Clips pick (will be late in the 1st round) if necessary to entice the Mavs.

Dallas Mavericks are looking to defend their title, and not become a lottery team you know. Very lopsided for the Celtics.

How so?  Have you seen what Lamar has been doing for them?

Bass has been better than Lamar this season by quite a bit.  Ian doesn't play a very large role on the team.  Marion has been pretty good, but Ray would get a ton of open looks on that team and would be very valuable.

your reply is clear indicator you haven't watched Mavericks much this season.

Don't let the stats fool you, Lamar Odom 6th man of the year is the best player in the exchange. Ian Mahinmi is in the running for MIP. He's having a breakout year splitting minutes with Brandon Haywood at Center. Shawn Marion one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA. Roddy B is scoring machine Career high 40points; stuck behind Terry & Kidd. A building block for the future.

That would leave the Mavs with nobody at the small forward other than maybe Vince Carter.  No defensive option on the wing to put on Durant, Kobe.  Takes them out of contention (they're on the fringe right now).

I do think they will want to dump Odom and Vince if they're serious about cap space.  $4.4 mil in cap costs if they waive them next year.

2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Only $2.4 mil of Odom's deal next year is guaranteed. Carter's contract beyond this year is also not fully guaranteed. So the Mavs can cut both and clear a good deal of cap space.

It's Marion's or Haywood's deal that Dallas would love to move. With Odom and Carter, Dallas could more easily move Marion.

JO and Stiemsma for Marion and a future draft pick helps Dallas get that much closer to clearing enough cap space for a run at D Williams during the offseason.

How about Ray/Bass/2nd rounder for Vince/Odom/Beaubois?  Gives Mavs more scoring without destroying their defensive core (Haywood/Marion). They shave $6 mil off their cap next year.

The C's get a different look in the backcourt with Carter's ball-handling/passing and rebounding (still better than Ray in this regard) plus a superior defensive/rebounding option to Bass in Odom to shore up their big man rotation.  Then Roddy as the reward for taking on salary from the Mavs.  Fits in as the dynamic guard we've always wanted behind Rondo.

I think they actually want to keep Marion around.  Still one of the very best wing defenders in the league.  Huge reason why they were able to beat the Heat.

Haywood, sure, but I think they'll just amnesty him.  He's a big part of their team this year and has near negative value with that contract.

Odom and Carter are more disposable and easier to move.

Celtics will be center-less. And why would the Celtics help the Mavericks decrease their cap? The two teams will be competing for same FA's in the summer.

I could go for that, but I'd really want to try to bring back Mahinmi as well if we're trading one of the Big 3.  He's a free agent after this season, but that would give us an advantage in re-signing him.

You may be right that the Mavs would want to keep Marion around, but considering how much they seem to value cap space for this summer, I wouldn't be surprised if they'd be okay with moving him and having a wing rotation of Allen / Carter / Terry / West.

Dallas will be looking to sign win-now guys to put around Dirk.  They'll also be making a run at the big name guys (Howard, Deron) if they make it to free agency.  Celtics will be in rebuild mode.  The big name guys won't have any interest in coming, and the win-now guys won't be worth the money.

So I disagree that we'll be competing for the same FA's, except for role players.
