I have been struggling these past weeks, trying to find an appropriate way of handling/addressing all of these trade proposals people have been posting on here lately. I chose to just not respond to any of them and let them be. BUT, my passion for the Celtics, NBA, and the game in general, just wont let me sit back any longer without expressing myself.

Specifically: for the seemingly past 3-4 weeks there has been NON-STOP trade for Josh Smith trade proposals. JOSH SMITH!!! JOSH-Freaking-SMITH!!!

Josh-the-home-crowd-boos-and-gasps-every-time-I-shoot-a-jumpshot-outside-of-12-feet-Smith!

Now, he has decent numbers, superb athleticism, great highlight plays, and nice size.

But,what I can't seem to understand is why people are tripping head-over-heels for a guy who has an incredibly low basketball IQ, shaky-handles,shaky-jumpshot,turnover prone, and no defense outside of chase down and weak side blocks.

Josh Smith is not a game-changer type of player, he's not someone who you can give the ball to,and will at any point during a game draw a double team.

Defensively he's not someone who can be effective outside of being an weak side help defender or shot blocker, which are important roles don't get me wrong, but not ones in which a team should rely their defensive schemes on.

Josh Smith is already in his 8th season, unfortunately he's picked up some bad habits from the first half of his career when the Hawks were awful, that he really hasn't been able to shed, he's gotten better, but honestly he should have been at least a 2-time All-Star by now.

I don't see Josh Smith really becoming more than what he currently is, which is why I am having a hard time understanding why people are saying to trade for him now, or trade for him as a part of a future rebuilding piece because he's honestly just not a difference maker.

I've seen many Atlanta games, where honestly I forget Josh Smith is on the floor, someone with his size and ability should never be without presence on the court, and that still happens and he is almost 10 years into his career.

I honestly don't understand where this adoration for Josh Smith all of sudden came from. Personally, its starting to get annoying.

Ok,  I'm done venting!

I feel better! ;D

I think it's a case of looking at who's available and what's out there heading into an upcoming season that is sure to feature some rebuilding.

With us seemingly out of the Howard & D-Will sweepstakes attention goes to second tier stars such as Josh Smith.

josh smith rebounds the ball really well, runs the floor exceptionally well, BLOCKS SHOTS+++, pretty good defender( would improve under DOC, he's really good now but he still hasn't reached his potential...Really good player

We have to replace KG sooner or later, people are just being hopeful.  Aside from the unattainable (Amare, Griffin, Love, LMA) there aren't a ton of other young all-star caliber PFs with potential (Bosh, Milsap, Scola, David Lee).
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

He's also Rondo's friend, right? So there's that.

And....well.....okay. Why else would we want him? I'm stumped!!

  • Rondo = Good
a) he's supposedly great friends with Rondo, so there's the perception that he'd want to be here and that there'd be good chemistry

b) he's a player who impacts the game in a lot of ways (steals, rebounds, blocks, points).  he's still young and both extremely talented and athletic.  he's a good player now, but he has all the tools to be a really good one, and i think there's reasonable hope that he can put it together.

nonetheless, i don't know if he's really a good fit next to rondo.  he's not a good free throw shooter, or a good shooter in general, which means the options for good players to put around he and Rondo would be quite limited.

Josh Smith is a good player that can play good defense and pass the ball, not good at jump shots but he can drive pretty well

he still has potential and a good friend of Rondo and Dwight. He might do well in our system

Also, he could help lure Dwight if not AT LEAST have him consider us...

I'm not sold on Smith, but he's a big who has a jump shot, something that you need if Rondo is your point guard (and the reason I am not sold on Smith is that his jump shot is not that great).

What I can't stomach are the trade proposals that involve the inferior Rudy Gay.  I don't get why anyone would want to see him as a Celtic.

eh . . . I'm not sure if this is really accurate.  I think he has a jumpshot at times.  For the most part, I think he's a pretty bad shooter.

Because the board has finally exhausted every possible Al Jefferson trade scenario?

He's a good defender, I like him...but he isn't a cornerstone. He would be an excellent supporting player IMHO.
