Ok I had to play this game and I think this trade makes at least a little sense.

The Celtics Trade KG to Memphis for Randolph, Mayo and 1st round pick.

Celtics do this because they get 20/10 post player, a young SG for the future and an extra 1st rd pick.

Memphis does the deal because it makes them an immeadiate title contender.  A playoff starting five of Gasol, KG, Gay, Allen and Conley could win it all.  It also saves them some cap room next season and they will just insert Darrell Arthur into the starting lineup.

Boston
Rondo/Mayo
RAllen/Mayo/Pietrus
Pierce/Pietrus
Randolph/Bass
O'Neal/Steemer

Memphis
Conley/Pargo
TAllen/Young/Selby
Gay/Young
KG/Cunningham
Gasol/Speights

I know Celtics fans will complain about Randolph's contract but do you really think we are signing a Marque free agent this summer.  We make this deal, throw decent money at a young Center Mcgee, Jason Thompson, Asik and you have a nice core.

****? So Memphis, a strong team, will give us Z-Bo (a 20/10 guy), Conley (10/3) AND a 1st rd pick for the pleasure of seeing KG struggle to average 13 & 7?

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Both teams should stay clear of such a trade. A KG for Randolph trade doesn't make the Grizzlies better, I'm pretty sure you realize that despite your post. Randolph is 30 he has no future with a rebuilding team. I think trying to get Gay from Memphis would be a better idea although I absolutely hate his contract.

If you want to throw a quick young play-off team together trade KG, filler and pick(s) to Memphis for Gay. Memphis does it as a pure salary dump might be able to squeeze out Mayo if you play your cards right and they really want out of Gay's contract. Then flip Ray and a filler to Atlanta for Josh Smith. Atlanta does it purely as a salary dump and to get rid of a malcontent. That leaves us with Rondo, Mayo, Gay, Smith, O'neal and Pierce off the bench. We lose cap room and probably picks, but it keeps us out the lotto and I like that team more than our current 1. The bad news Rondo, Mayo, and Smith have all had questions surrounding their character.

Worst trade thread in the history of CelticsBlog.

Randolph is better than Garnett, OJ Mayo for Ray is a wash, why are they giving Boston a 1st rounder?

Conley, TA, Gay, Randolph, Gasol

is TWICE as good as

Conley, Ray, Gay, KG, Gasol

sorry.

Why would a reasonably young team like Memphis make a trade that will leave them with nothing next season? Especially since Randolph for KG is probably a major downgrade come playoff time when Randolph will presumably be good to go and KG will be worn out.

They are essentially giving up a 1st rounder for the privilege of being worse this season and way worse next.

Do trade ideas like this come from an inability to see through the eyes of other teams?

Mayo, Conley and 1st rounder for Rondo...

Blow up the rest of the team as well.  Build around cap space, young prospects and draft picks

Ugh. No way. That's a brutal deal for Boston.
