How would yall feel about this starting 5 next year?

Rondo
Austin Rivers (draft)
Jeff Green
Josh Smith (trade)
Omer Asik

reserves:
Paul Pierce (split time with Jeff Green)
Ray Allen (split time with Rivers)
Mickael Pietrus
Meyers Leonard (draft)
Keyon Dooling
Brandon Bass
Jajuan Johnson
E'Twaun Moore
Greg Steimsma
Avery Bradley

give or take a few of the reserves (except paul and ray). Smith would be added with a trade using a mix of the reserves just listed and Omer Asik would be signed through free agency.

I think this team would allow us to compete next year, while also giving us cap room to make a big deal in 2013. It would be a nice mix of young/ veteran, fast, and strong in the middle. Thoughts?

To be honest that's like a borderline playoff team.

Austin Rivers should be a combo guard off the bench instead of a starting two guard. Too small and too deficient in terms of defense and rebounding.

Ray Allen should start in his place and so too should Paul Pierce ahead of Jeff Green. Green should resume the primary backup wing role. I can't see Pietrus re-signing with Green, Pierce and Ray here. So he'll be gone. Dooling could stay as a third string backup combo guard behind Rivers.

Josh Smith and Omer Asik is a nice starting big man duo. I love how they complement one another on defense. Brandon Bass sticks around for the backup PF duties, nice (although it limits Jeff Green's potential minutes). Meyers Leonard as a backup center. No idea what to expect from him but I am going to assume he'll be an average backup big man.

I am thinking that squad is around 8th-12th best in the NBA.

I agree about for the most part about paul and ray still starting, although I dont like the idea of Jeff Green playing any 4. I think him and Paul should split time at 3, and if we are serious about Jeff Green as part of our future, it should be at the 3. Austin Rivers, to me, is a shooting guard only. I dont think his size matter since there are 2 guards smaller than him (gordon, Ellis) who are very effective. The scorers mentality doesnt translate well to combo guard duties. I think he can be a 20+ ppg guy with a little grooming. Yes, Smith and Asik are a nice defensive frontcourt. I actually see Leonard as an becoming an above average nba center. He is a highly coordinates, agile, athletic 7 footer who already has solid post skills. His main defeciency is that hes not currently strong enough to defend the big boys in the post. But I would draft him hoping for like a 17 and 8 type player someday. This is also the lineup i envision for next year. 2013 free agency could change it quite a bit.

I think this team would fit in with the idea the 76ers and nuggets are implementing. A deep young team with maybe one great player and several good players, yet very deep and defensively sound. I think this team could compete with every team in the league as the nuggets, 76ers, and Pacers have.

Neither Denver or Philly have a great player. Heck at best their best players are no more then the third best player on a championship team. Their success goes to show you how effective depth is I. This condensed season.

I'd prefer the Celtics make a run at Robin Lopez. I real grinder who hustles on the boards AND (bonus) could probably get used to Rondo quick because he's been playing with Nash.

I love the idea of Rondo, Rivers, Green, Smith though...

Robin Lopez. He's a RFA next year. I like him to go Celtic green as well. He showed some regression but there is some tough, gritty physical player in him.

I love that idea. I just don't see a reason why Atlanta would trade us Josh Smith. Everybody in this forum is pushing for J-Smoove and believe me I want him too, i just don't know how could we possibly get him via trade. Who do we have to exchange for him?

Asik is a solid Center as well. Don't know if Chicago is gonna let him go but it's a possibility.

Austin Rivers is pretty nice. Needs more work on that game but its rare to find a talent who can create shots for himself these days. But he'll definitely be a top 10 pick and I'm not sure if we'll be in the top 10 draft.

? It's perfectly possible, he's going in the teens.

Get Green out of there, either on the bench or don' sign him. You have absolutely no shooting at all, Rondo can't shoot for lick neither can smoove or green and Rivers can but has poor shot selection.

I love Austin Rivers and think he is a great player but as long as Doc is the coach I don't want him here. I really think the father son dynamic would be terrible in the pro's. I think it would stunt Austins growth and would be really tough on Doc

Yeah lets just trade a couple of reserves for josh Smith, makes total sense. The team listed in the OP would have trouble making the 7th or 8th seed in the east.

I don't think there is any possibility that Pierce will come off the bench while Jeff Green starts next season.

Id rather keep Allen and Pierce at 37 and 35 than replace them with Rivers and Green.
