I've seen lot of KG for smith Trades and seen a lot of peoples dream rosters with Smith on it. Plus Rondo and Smith really would like to play with each other.

Atlanta has in the past expressed interests in letting Smith go, for reason of contract and doesn't fit with the team, how I don't know, but its out there.

KG's contract doesn't work, just to dang big, and only an elite player will work and thats not happening( sorry Howard fans).

But Bass's contract works better. Trade him and maybe JJJ it might work. Only if Atlanta is unhappy with Smith mind you, but much more realistic than KG. They get a Solid PF that can his shots, and MAYBE a future PF that is KG lite. Might have to throw in a pick as well.

Get this done, Start Smith, KG at Center, pick up or trade for some pieces and the season looks a bit better. Or at least a little more fun to watch.

Then maybe Howard looks at Boston when they throw a

   Rondo/Newb
   Mayo/Allen
   Greeen/Peirce/Pietrus
   Smith/KG
   ?

I would love this trade, would be a steal for boston...but what makes Atlanta do it?? other than wanting to shed salary?

It does work if you also take Marvin Williams together with Smith. In any case, the Hawks will laugh at a Bass for Smith idea.

If KG's $21 million salary for Smith's $12 million salary doesn't work what makes anyone believe that Bass' $4 million salary for Smith's $12 million salary works?

Even if the talent was similar the salaries don't add up.

That's why people keep bringing up Ray's name. His contract does match up, he is a player they have been interested in before, and he is an expiring - it makes a lot more sense for the future, even if it is bad for this season.

Garnett's contract is better than Allen's in this respect -- it allows us to absorb more salary, and therefore offer trading partners more cap relief.

How would Bass for Smith make any logical sense for Atlanta. Bass has played great in his role for us so far this season but Smith is a borderline All-Star every season...Does anyone really think before they offer trade proposals anymore?

I don't see ATL parting ways with JSmoove without getting anything in return. They're definitively gonna want a 1st round pick, especially since BOS is 4-8...

I agree with this and have mentioned it in other threads. If you use KGs contract, you can take on Smith and Johnson - not that anybody really want JJ, but we would be a pretty solid team. With little to no chance of picking up Dwight or Love this season, it at least allows us to be very competitive over the next few years. Then we still have to find our next young, up and coming star...

Why does anyone think Josh Smith is available?  He's a solid player on a two year contract paying him 12 mil a year.

I'm confused why his name keeps coming up in thread after thread after thread.  If he could be had, we'd have him already.

Joe JOhnson is the albatross in Atlanta... not Smith.

Getting J Smith for Bass makes about as much sense as the Magic getting Rondo for Glen Davis.

News out of Atlanta is that the team is committed to build around Johnson, and wants to get out of Smith's contract. I have no idea why they'd want to do such a thing, but if Smith can be had for cap relief/picks/youth, I think we should pounce. The numbers work for a large array of trades.

Im convinced a majority of these posters only watch the Celtics only they think average players would be enough for all-stars lol

Not doubting you, but do you have a link?  If I were in their shoes, it would be the Joe Johnson contract I'd want to dump.

As for the OP, I go back and forth on this.  The recent Gerald Wallace trade set the bar pretty low for a player of Smith's caliber, but if Atlanta's looking to win now, they'll want a third star.

Short-term guys probably won't be appealing considering Horford's injury though.
