Which player is the best passer?
1. Chris Paul, L.A. Clippers -- 40.7%
2. Steve Nash, Phoenix -- 37.0%
3. Ricky Rubio, Minnesota -- 11.1%
Also receiving votes: Jose Calderon, Toronto; Jason Kidd, Dallas; Deron Williams, New Jersey
Last year: Steve Nash -- 75.0%

Rondo got NO votes.  Huh?  Color me confused.
No votes is a bit extreme, but I guess the 4 turnovers per game don't help.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I definitely don't mind keeping Rondo.

I agree - he's young, has a decent contract, and is extremely talented. I certainly don't want to trade him for less than he is worth.

As for everyone mentioning the 4 turnovers, that is really just this year and in a very small sample size. In his career, he has proven to be at 2.5-3. I really don't know what gms have against the guy, but he and Nash are easily the top two guys I want passing the ball to players on my team (other attributes are up for discussion).

This is not true at all. In the three seasons that Rondo has averaged more than 35 mpg, his turnovers have progressed from 3 to 3.5 to 4 (in a small sample).

If anything, he's established that increased responsibility (which comes as a natural consequence of the diminishing skills of the Big 3) has caused him to be a less effective player.

Chis Paul is someone who has established himself firmly in the 2.5-3 TO per game range (most TOs per game has been 2.96, even though he's also never averaged less than 37 mpg). Over his entire career!

I'm trying to figure out when they might have taken the survey. Naming Rubio best passer would imply that he's played enough games in the nba season to get noticed as such, but the same number of people who thought Rubio was the best passer in the league think that the Celts have the best defense in the league. That would seem to imply that they hadn't seen much of this season if any.

Well based on the percentages given, only 27 GM's voted, so Rubio at 11.1% means he only got 3 out of 27 votes.  If you vote for your own player *cough* Toronto-Jose Calderon *cough*, that probably means only two GM's outside of Minnesota's voted for him.  He's played in 13 games, enough to woo a couple of GM's (like maybe Washington, Chicago, Atlanta, or the Heat who he had double digit assist games against, and apparently Washington and Chicago didn't vote for there own guys with no Derrick Rose or John Wall votes).

So don't worry, Rondo could still end up with 10% of the votes if those other 3 GM's vote (one of whom is probably Danny whose too busy answering all the calls about Pierce to vote)  ;)

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

The problem is right now Rondo has know one to really pass to the makes you go WOW!!! You see some of the summer league clips on the web. Some really nice passes to ATHLETIC players. You put this guy on Miamis team and he'd average 17 APG easy. He has 10 APG right now and the team can't shoot!
;)
true besides ray our team has shot pretty bad (add in bass til last few games)
on a running team he'd be doing some serious numbers

He's not a less effective player now than he was before. He turns the ball over a bit more but it's more non-passing turnovers from his expanded shooting/scoring role. I still think his turnovers will go down, especially when a few of the newer guys get more used to his passing.
