The clippers pick from the perk trade was smart

If the season ended today, the Clippers would be picking 24th.  There's a long way to go, but thus far, the Clippers have been an excellent team.

No way...

They have played fewer games than most of the other teams and they are overrated:

- thin roster
- inexperienced coach
- weak defense at the 2, 3 and 4
- weak bench

I see them more around 20.

I know the debate here is about the Perk trade, but this is the past.

When I see the 2012 Celtics, I ask myself two questions:
- can they win another ring this year?
- if they can't, what is the best way to rebuild another contending team?

Imho, the answer to the first question is clearly negative. They could not score last year in the clutch, they won't be able to do better this year with a weaker roster, a tighter schedule and 1 more year under their belt.

Now, the 2nd question. Do you think it's better to stick with it, hope for big names FA to be on the market and make a run for them or to go for some trades at the deadline to bring yound blood (and possibly some picks) aiming at the lowest rank in the league to have the highest possible pick in the draft?

As far as I'm concerned, I don't think Howard is signing with the Celtics next summer (he wants to win now, remember?). The FA market next summer will be bad. No big names, no stars, no quick and easy rebuilding around Rondo + the big 3.

So the C's might as well try to play it smart. They should try to go for the lotery this year, hoping to pick high and start the rebuilding process now with some yound talents. They have 2 picks in the next draft and some pieces to move around before the deadline, I'm sure they can have a top 10 pick in june.

I know it is hard to swallow, but this team is done. They are not gonna win a championship this year, so what's the point? DA is not gonna move before the deadline though, because he needs leverage. The weak performances from the Celtics in the next weeks will give him the leverage he needs to justify to the fans breaking up the big 3 now and not waiting for the cap space to clear itself out (btw, what's the point of having cap space if you can't use it on good players?).

Now about the Perk trade. It played out poorly because JG never had the opportunity to prove himself. It was clearly a mistake but again... it is the past. DA is not looking at the past, he is thinking about the future and the future is in the draft.

The more you wait to start rebuilding, the longer the Celtics will suck. They already suck now, they will suck even more next year if DA doesn't move now. When I listen to some people around this blog, it seems that the Celtics are still contending and that making moves now for the future will hurt their chances to win another title.

They are gonna suck anyway. So what do you prefer? Do you prefer this team to suck for the next 2 or 3 seasons or for the next 4 or 5?

I really hope they go full rebuild mode now after this year. I want to see this board go nuts after the first 15 game losing streak, and I want to watch the posters who were crying about the future pine for the 2011-2012 Celtics.

Teams do it every year, all it takes is a team that needs depth. I wouldn't dismiss this idea at all, I'm not talking about a top 3 pick at all, but 7-10 is possible if you are willing to pay and depending of course on where the Celtics and Clippers both finish of course.

I'm inclined to bet that you're overly optimistic.  Rebuilding in the NBA usually isn't a quick or easy process.  I'm thinking that our drought from contending will be significantly longer than three years.

Well, given the results the  last time the celtics were in the lottery, I do not find this to be comforting.

Two guys I don't want. This is coming from a Carolina fan.

1. John Henson: Has skills, but is the softest player I've seen in a long time.

2. Austin Rivers: Plays for the hated Dukies. He can get his own shot, but his shot selection is terrible and he's not a PG. With Doc, it makes it interesting but I'd rather not.

Who I do want that is realistic at #15-25 range with a trade up

1. Kidd-Gilchrist. I love the way he plays the game. He reminds me of Ruben Patterson (blast from the past) in terms of toughness and defense, but he also has a pretty good offensive game. I don't think he can be the superstar of your team, but he could be a great #2 guy.

I keep saying that the Perkins trade was a very smart move, business-wise! We got a very good player in Jeff Green, a serviceable center in Krstic and a valuable 1st rd pick in this year's deep draft! It's not Danny's fault that Rondo checked out, Shaq wasn't healthy in time for the playoffs, CP3 came to the Clips, and Jeff Green got a heart ailment.. Perkins' health was questionable and he would've walked in the offseason anyway.. It was just bad luck that befell the Celtics after the trade.. Call it 'Curse of the Kendrino' ? (Like Babe Ruth's Bambino)

calling Green a very good player is laughable - the guy is soft as jello and does nothing really well - he does a bunch of things with mediocrity - plus he doesn't have any appetite for the battle.

Kirstic is long gone. with Perk last year, we make a strong run at #18, with Kirstic, we don't even sniff the finals.

Rondo "checked out" because of the Perk trade, so that is Danny's fault. Danny didn't understand the makeup and chemistry of his team well enough to know what was going to happen. this group is a very emotional bunch. they had the best chemistry in the league and shared a group need to avenge the game 7 loss of the previous year.

finally, when are people going to realize that Perk was going nowhere. he wanted to be in Boston and would have taken a little less for a little security. if we could pay Green or West close to $10mill per, we sure could have afforded Perk.
