I've never been the biggest Ainge fan (can find 2nd round gems, but has been terrible for the most part and still believe he costs us #18 last year), but one thing we do know is that he's not afraid to pull the trigger. If the season continues down this path, then I think he needs to do one of the toughest things in Boston and amnesty Pierce.

After this year, he has roughly 2 years/$30mil left. He's never been a self-starter and how's he going to play on a team that's rebuilding? The new CBA states that a team can cut a player as long as he was on the current roster at the time.

KG plays hard, but old age has caught up to him. Paul, on the other hand, possibly still has it, but how he takes care of his body will come back to haunt him. He looked as bad as I've ever seen him last night.

Start fresh with Rondo and Bass. Either plan for 2013's free agents or go into a full-fledged rebuilding.

After this year he has 1 year left actually, and as logical as it is, Ainge doesn't have the cahones to amnesty Pierce.

  • Rondo = Good
If there's ever a time to amnesty Pierce, it will be this summer.  Doesn't make much sense right now.

I'm talking about in the summer, not now. Ainge has never been loyal and rarely cares what the fans want so let's see him make something that benefits for the future. We either need to bottom out or make some type of blockbuster (no pieces besides Rondo).

Considering the number of times I've heard Wyc talk about PP retiring a Celtic I'd say that plan would be a non-starter. Pierce might retire (probably after next year) but I don't think cutting him's really an option.

Paul will not leave $15 mil on the table and retire. Wyc and Ainge are going to make that tough decision on whether to continue the team option (highly unlikely at this point). There will be bad feelings either way so might as well do it in the summer.

if PP wants to retire at the end of this year, an amnesty actually helps both sides, PP gets paid, Celtics get him off the books and can retire his number. win/win.

Um, no.

But it is time to ride his rear end.  He's not in shape.  That's his fault.

Bench him, or play him 48 minutes?  Neither, of course.  But amnesty the most potent offensive player on the team?  Um, no.

But early in his tenure, Doc had the huevo's to sit Pierce when he was dogging it and not running.  He doesn't any more.

Scenario in 2013 (I love doing these type of things)

Cut Pierce in the summer, making the team bottom out in 2012.

Rondo, Bass and Green under contract. Should have enough for 2 max players.

1. Draft Jabari Parker (HS Junior who is a superstar in the making) with a top 5 lottery pick.

2. Kevin Love signs a max contract with us in 2013.

3. Sign Al Jefferson to a midlevel contract.

4. Sign Paul George to a max contract.

Starting 5
Rondo
George
Parker with Green off the bench.
Bass
Love (Jefferson coming in at the 4/5)

Cutting Pierce doesn't alter this plan for 2013 because of the team option, but this team will be 35-45 instead of 20-62 which takes away that high pick.

Love and Big Al don't fit together, they played in minny together that's why Al was traded.

It would make absolutely no sense to amnesty Pierce at this moment unless the goal was to be a lottery team and that is not the case. Even after this season it makes close to no sense to cut Pierce for cap room as recruiting free agents to Boston will still be very difficult and likely unsuccessful. Plus, we’ll have enough money to get our feet wet with it. If anything, our best bet for future recruitment would be to show LOYALTY to a player that has been with this team through thick and thin. Players in the league notice this type of stuff and if the money is equal, nightlife and weather are irrelevant; we’ll have a shot at said recruitment. However, the most likely scenario is that we eventually rebuild through the draft.

Bottom-line is Paul Pierce will and SHOULD retire a Celtic because there's no reason for him not to.

Sorry, but I have my doubts about Jeff Green.  If he's a part of the plan where he's a "cornerstone" of this team moving forwad, god help us...
