It still hits me the what if's and what could have's it is no secret our glaring weakness and hole still not filled till this day and when he left is our CENTER position. I mean we were a perfect fit when healthy right there with the best of them.

Yes, we do miss Perkins or we really do miss a solid defender in the middle! Teams usually were scared getting inside or getting inside because of Perk and KG. However, any of our centers now aren't scary enough! KG can't certainly do it himself.
Our team is on a steady decline ever since.

Of course we miss Perkins.

Any time you lose one of the core players that helped you win a Championship you're going to miss them.

It's not just his physical presence but an emotional and psychological one.

We def. miss his intimidation factor and his ability to communicate and talk on defense.

The C's also miss their defensive coach.

Perkins isn't the same player he once was were he here we'd still be talking about getting Dwight.  I too miss his positional defense.

Yes, the team misses Perk.

The team also misses the player they traded Perk for (Green), though not as much as they miss having the C that pushes people around.

They miss Perk.  He's still not worth what he is being paid now.

They miss KG, Ray and Pierce of three years ago more then they miss Perkins or anything else.

The lesson for Danny of the last few years is that players that are both very good at and prototypical for their position tend to fit together well on the court.  Perk is a prototypical center, and he's missed for that reason.

What isn't missed?  Offensive fouls setting picks.  Technical fouls.  Missed gimmies under the hoop. A starting center that can't/doesn't play even 30 minutes per night.  Usually less than 8 rebounds, tops.

Despite his limitations, the guy played with Celtic pride, and that's missed, too.

This team also misses Bird, Parish, and McHale too.

I argued last night (in public) about how we ended up with nothing after the Perkins trade after all. Ultimately, that trade blew up in Danny's face big time. But he is being paid at 8 million dollars per year to be a complimentary player on a potential championship team which unfortunately is the market standard.

So much for NBA deflation.

On a one year deal, Perkins got four years very different levels of pay.

  • Rondo = Good
Does this team miss what Perk could give them now?

yes. but not for the amount they'd have had to pay him.

Perkins has not been giving the Thunder much this season. His PER for/against is comparable to to O'Neal's, and his net +/- is much worse than O'Neal's.

I think if he were on this Celtics team he might be giving us 20-25 minutes a game, but at a performance level similar to what JO does. The upgrade would be at backup center, where JO would be better than Stiemsma, but even there I don't see the difference as being all that dramatic.

Having Perkins might be worth 3-5 extra wins over the course of the year.

The difference would be greater if JO were to get hurt, obviously. I think that is the real risk with our team right now, in terms of missing Perkins.

  • TRANSFORMATION INTO CHAMPION COMPLETE!!!
Perk may help but I don't think he would be a major difference maker this season. Look around the league, other than dwight there is no dominant offensive center, it's a wing's league. More and more centers are becoming strictly rebounders and defenders at the rim, and perk was never a good shot blocker. Perk was far and away the best center in the league at defending Dwight, but is that really a concern heading into the playoffs? Bynum and Gasol may have size and offense but to beat them you have to get to the finals and a team built to beat them might not be a team built to beat the Heat/Bulls.

Perkins PER rating this year amongst centers is 51 out of 58.  Not we don't miss him.  He's just an average to below average rebounder with no offensive skills.  He would completely cripple our offense.
