I wonder if this means Portland can come out of the West.
It wasn't Russell Westbrook who injured his knee.
Last year, OKC performed better with Maynor on the court than with Westbrook in most statistical categories.
I'm not sure exactly to take that, its a pretty common thing among backup 1s on good teams with star PG's.
For instance, New Orleans (a bad team)had an elite starting PG and a very good backup PG. The rest of the supporting cast however isn't much better as a unit than a 10th or so best team in a conference. Jarret Jack (a pretty good backup PG on any team) had a net negative on/off +/- stat, while Chris Paul was a solid double digits plus.
Meanwhile, if you look at the Mavericks (very solid supporting cast), JJ Barea had a net positive +/- on/off the court while Kidd had a net negative one (implying that the team was better with him on the bench)
In both situations though the team was scoring more points than they allowed when either guy was out there, just like in OKC. I think part of the discrepancy is that Maynor often faced backups, while Westbrook took the starters from the opposing squad.
