another guy who loves to rebound, moves well without the ball, and is always at the right place at the right time...which is no accident or coincidence and...guess what...i bet doc wouldn't play him after he got 5-10 rebounds.....!

Having lived near Cleveland and watched varejao a number of time...

I like him and his energy. But....  He is not a starter on a championship team. He has the right attitude, but not the skills needed. His offensive skills are too limited by far.

But, off the bench he is great. Great energy and hustle. But against top centers he struggles on offense and defense.

The celtice would be better off investing their resources in another center to lead the team...unless he is willing to sign for a reduced salary..........ha.

The Cavs would jump all over that deal, even with our picks being in the 18-25 range. The Celtics need as much picks as they can get. Sideshow Bob would be a solid addition though.

We are setting up to rebuild after this season and this team is devoid of quality young talent. The last thing we should be doing is giving up two 1st round picks in what's widely considered a very deep draft. At least not for just an offensively challenged role-player.

Do you believe the Celtics are so far out of title contention that Varejao couldn't be a difference maker? Put them back in the mix to win the East?

Even if the Celtics failed in their title bid and had to go into a full rebuild next summer, Varejao would still have a very trade-able contract. The C's could get that lost cap flexibility back quite easily and probably snare a draft pick too. The downside looks fairly small to me.

Also, there could be a chance that Varejao becomes a useful long term piece. Only 29. He should have another 4-5 years ahead of him. High level defender and quality rebounder. Varejao would be ideal next to a Brook Lopez type or a good fit alongside an offensive minded PF.

As I said in another post, I think we are 2 posts away from being a top tier team.   I hope we turn it around but I have my doubts.
