56 percent from the line is inexcusable and a liability
so he misses 2-3 more shots than the average free throw shooter... boo hoo

free throws are overrated

another overreeaction thread. bet u wanted to trade ray allen when he had a string of bad games a while back

Not an overreaction. I have felt this way for a while and would never trade ray. This may sound counter intuitive but I actually think our rebuilding will be better served by extending ray and kg to reasoble extensions and trading rondo for as many pieces (like those mentioned in my op) as you can get.

Rondo is what he is. But he's not the reason we lost. Pierce going for 3 of 17 and us getting destroyed on the boards is why we lost.

I agree with this mostly... but RR is a part of what went wrong too. I'm giving a D- to PP, BB, KG, and RR. Ray Allen is some type of Alien, maybe a cyborg... that man can go forever! I want to say though, our defense was spot on for most of the game... if we hit some shots we win easily! Our offense has been stagnant a few times this season (last season was messy too at times)!
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Celtics were -2 points the 39 minutes Rajon Rondo played.

Celtics were -11 points the 9 minutes Rajon Rondo was on the bench.

and you're telling me it's rondo's fault? Rondo doesn't play and this team is lucky to win 2 games so far. He's only got 2 other players producing with him Ray and Bass, and Rondo is defiantly out producing both of them as well

i love pierce, and he obviously is our best scorer, but I'd like to see him rest for a couple more games after this tough stretch we have and see how Rondo and Ray take over games. KG can take some more shots too, quit the conservative play

Free throws are overrated? I don't know where to begin.  The guy is 1-7 in the last two games, and sinc going 7-8 in game 1, he is 16-33' which is atrocious. There has never been an "elite" point guard who shot this poorly from the line. Never.

late in fourth quarters, though, Rondo doesn't pass or score.  he disappears.  he defers to Pierce / Ray / KG and hangs off to the side.  even when Rondo has dominated earlier, in a close game Rondo always seems to disappear late in the 4th.
He doesn't take the ball hard to the basket in the 4th quarter because he is an awful free throw shooter, and if he does he takes an off balance layup because he is trying to get past the contact and make the hoop without being hit. This is a fatal flaw in his game , much more so than his 15-18 ft jumper and is partially why the c's lost game 7 in the 2010 nba finals. Kobe would just back off him and dare him to shoot . Rondo had like 5 - 10 feet of running room to take it at kobe and try to get a foul with his speed, but wouldn't do it.

Der-on Will-iams clap clap, clap clap clap

Rondo is a pass first PG who knows he's a poor shooter. That's why he disappears late. He tries to get other guys shots because that's the highest percentage for our team. It's a problem with our offense, not just with Rondo. He's not a guy whose going to take over a game late, nor should he have to be. We need ball movement and better execution late.

if us fans are this frustrated, can you fathom how frustrated the Celtics are with him? Rondo is so talented that he takes it for granted. The game comes too easy for him (except shooting). He can get to rim anytime he wants to. He takes bad ankles on defense because he has incredible wingspan taps the ball from the back. His superior court vision sometimes puts at disadvantage he tries a lot of high risk passes.

Someone like Darren collison, raymond felton, Lowry in Houston, even a Brandon jennings or tyreke Evans.  Couldn't we get those guys and then some (perhaps a hard working banger) for rondo?  Wouldn't any of those guy be soilid starting with the big three and open up our offense?
The answer to your question is no. One of those PGs would disrupt our offense. Our starters are great scorers who struggle to create their own shots. Having a distributor like Rondo is exactly what's best for them. He can get them the ball in their spots so they can do what they do best.

I don't understand how any of the guys you listed could possibly open up the offense. Our offense runs through Rondo...no one you listed is capable of being the focal point of an offense. The addition of a banger or whatever scraps would just mean we could send the rookies to the D-league and have a better 9-12th man.

This is where I think a lot of fans are wrong about Rondo. He makes things look easy, but he doesn't take anything for granted. Every report you hear about him is that he works as hard as anyone in the league. He's right up there with Ray. So it's not like he's not giving it his all. The guy played with one arm in the playoffs last year to try and win.

I stopped reading this thread once I read "disappointed with pierce for having a bad game."

Did I miss the joke?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Yeah, you are probably right about our guys needing a pass first guy. Sometimes it just seems that a pg who could hit that outside shot or drive and draw fouls would make things easier, but we would suffer in other ways. Oh well...big win against the mavs an wed and my spirits should be back.

Rondo is driving you nuts? What about KG? He has shown up for 1 game this season, he's not rebounding, scoring, late on his defensive rotations, doesn't block any shots,  and has basically been a no show for the celts this year. I know Rondo is frustrating at times, but Rondo is going to be the reason we stick around in most games this year.

Yes, but this is supposed to be rondos team now. I have come to accept that at 35, kgs contributions can't be what they used to. Rondo needs to be the man now especially in the 4th.
