TP. "What gives?"

:]

But yeah, top 20 I guess. Perhaps even top 10. He's my favorite player, and I think he can definitely ball with them, but he's too dependent on others, so it's hard to compare.

He's unique, and in a league of his own.

agree with that

Rondo needs to shoot better to be considered a top 10 player.
When 64% from the line is considered an improvement, you've got troubles.

His high FG% is mainly due to points in the paint and though he does have a good 3pt% currently, let's see what it is after more than 7 attempts (maybe at 30 attempts we can begin to look at his % realistically).

Love him.  Top 20 maybe, but he can't carry a team the way top 5 guys do.
Without him, we would be a 20 win team. He carries us often.

Here is a good article about Rondo, and his importance to the Celtics offense: Running on Rondo

Of course, most of the people on this forum will just ignore it and continue to call for Rondo's to score more, because the only way to win a basketball game is to huck shots at the basket and hope some go in.

Do you really think that's what we're saying? Scoring is different than chucking. What makes the best players so great is that they can score almost at will, not that they can get their Jamal Crawford on and shoot all night. They demand constant double teams and can take over the game night in and night out. Rajon barely requires a guy on him at all times, let alone two. His jumpshot and willingness to shoot it are so poor that his man on defense often ignores him entirely. Try that with Wade or LeBron and see what happens.
So are you saying that Nash and Kidd were not top 5 when they were in their prime? They never commanded double teams, nor did they threaten to overtake the game by scoring. Rondo does actually threaten to do that at times yet he still is not considered better than them, even though he does all the other things (passing, rebounds DEFENSE) as well (Kidd).if not better (Nash)than they did.

Saying Rondo is better than D Wade is laughable, but so is saying  that Josh Smith is better than Rondo. I'd place him 4th/3rd best pg and top 15 overall.

What I think really holds Rondo back from being a truly top player is that he takes nights off against lesser competition. Whether that is lesser overall team competition or lesser overall PG competition doesn't matter, he does it.

Last night he was going up against what a lot of people have anointed as the next great young PG, John Wall. That gets under Rondo's skin and he plays better because of it. My guess is you will see Rondo bringing his "A" game versus Cleveland and Kyrie Irving as well.

But when Rondo plays the Jacks, Calderons, Stuckeys, Teagues and Augustins of the NBA, expect him to disappear defensively and have a very inconsistent game. I love Rondo, but, its what he does at times and it really subtracts from him as a top player.

Chris Paul takes nights off against inferior competition too; he took a lot of heat from New Orleans fans last year for it. It's probably because of his knee, but still. You'll probably be hearing about it more often this year because he's playing in a big market.

Still, I'd say Rondo is the league's 3rd best point guard after CP3 and Rose.

I've been Rondo's biggest fan and advocate for a while, and even I don't think he's a top 5 player. That said, I put him in my top 10 last year and he's still there. Sure, he can't shoot, but he can do everything else possible on the basketball floor. Btw, you forgot Howard, who's clearly a top 3 player.

Nash demands a double team off of every pick and role.  Because he can shoot, the whole defense has to adjust and react every time he has the ball and is on the move.  That then opens up everything else he does.  Rondo can create the same problems off the dribble but once we are in a set, the defense backs off (at least the good ones) and it makes everything harder.Kidd shot well enough to demand that his shot be at least respected.

Rondo looks better this year, he is moving up the ranks.  I just think this top 5 or top 10 talk is getting a little ahead of itself.  As he continues to improve, the sky is the limit so if you want to say top 5 potential, I can't argue that although even that is probably optimistic at best.
