I think it's fair to say around top 10 he's that good and there's no one like him

So apparently you can be one of the top 5 players in the NBA despite the fact that you can't shoot?

He's barely top 20 if that.

Durant, Lebron, CP3, Wade, Howard, Kobe, Griffin, Rose, Monta Ellis, Carmelo, Josh Smith, Stoudemire, etc.

Monta!!! all that dude does is score, nothing else plus he is a thug

Monta does a lot more then just score... The Warriors would be a 15 win team without him... try watching that team when he isn't playing.. it's ridiculous how bad they are

Rondo gets a bad rap when it comes to his jumpshot... He hits most of this attempts... only problem is, late in the game he's afraid to shoot the same shots he's been hitting all game...

That's his 1 area he needs to improve in... taking over the 4th

Every time i see people make these lists of players in a best of format, i rarely see it mentioned on what basis they are making it.

In a scenario of "im the GM of a team, need to pick a franchise player for this year only" rondo isnt top5 and i doubt he's top10 eighter.

The Special Ones (the ones with such a rare set of talent and or ability that sets them apart form the rest, in no particular order)
Lebron James
Dwayne Wade
Kobe Bryant
Dwight Howard
Dirk N.
Derick Rose
Chris Paul

I just cant see how you can put Rondo before any of those names, all of them have something of essential value to any team something Rondo just does not bring. You could switch any of those players for John Wall on the Wizards team and i would allmost venture a gamble that they would be a borderline playoff team, i doubt you could say the same for Rondo.

He isnt borderline unguardable like: Lebron James & Dirk N.
He isnt a clutch preformer like: Kobe Bryant & Dwayne Wade
He dosnt have a body type that instantly makes him a threat like: Dwight Howard

And he isnt a complete package threat like: Chris Paul & Derick Rose

I cannot fathom seeing him infront of any of those names and im quite sure you could make a case going down to 12-14ish making the same argument.

*edit: after re-reading this, i cant fathom i forgot durant but he most def. is among those rare talents of the league.
rondo is better than derick rose and arguably d wade

d wade is a shooting guard that hits under 30% from the 3 point line.

rose was shooting like 17% in the playoffs

Top 5 PG, definitely, but top 5 overall? maybe not..
But I knew he would come out motivated this season..

Rondo is a great player but not even close to being top 5. Maybe top 15.

If he was a Laker no one around here would consider him being top 5 or top 10 or even top 15!

It's the intangibles that make him such a great player in my opinion. I honestly couldn't care if he's top 5 or top 55.

He is such a smart basketball player, along with getting great numbers so far this season, he has showed us that he actually matured throughout the summer/lockout. He notices mis-matches alot more especially in the low-post. He recognises now when he can steal from behind or when he has to move his feet in front of player i.e. Countless times on John Wall last night and is another reason why his spg isn't as high as other years. He's more patient in my opinion on the offensive end this season - but this largely due to him improving his jumpshot. He has added a few tricks into his shooting repertoire - couple of post up plays this season and also the Chauncey Billups up-fake that not many other guards can pull, albeit Wade does it every time against Allen, that he coaxed Wall into last night.

Look, there's alot more to come from him, but these developing signs are a good sign for the future and for any player to put 3 all-stars on your back and carry them most of the team is an achievement in itself.

Yea, I really like the kid. But top 5? That's not saying much for the NBA if it's true.

Rajon Rondo is definitely a top 5 player . . . in the Atlantic Division.  He is amongst Carmelo, Amar'e, Deron, Paul, and KG.  He is somewhere in there.  Probably 4th.

Rondo greatest asset has always been his basketball IQ.   He sees things before they happen like Larry did.  That being said he lacks Larry's skillset but is much more athletic.

BIGGEST joke I ever heard, have you not watched derrick rose so far this season?? looks liek a totally different player, much better passer and even improved his 3 pt shooting.... and Dwyane Wade is the best player in the LEAGUE, Rondo is in no way shape or form a top 10 player in the NBA.

It's hard to say who is in the top 5 or 10, IMO there are 20 guys in the NBA that are capable of making top 5-10, you have to make that choice on the current form of the player himself.
