So apparently you can be one of the top 5 players in the NBA despite the fact that you can't shoot?

He's barely top 20 if that.

Durant, Lebron, CP3, Wade, Howard, Kobe, Griffin, Rose, Monta Ellis, Carmelo, Josh Smith, Stoudemire, etc.

This isn't fantasy basketball. Rondo is better player than some of the guys you listed. without a doubt Rondo is in top15. And no Stoudmire, Monta, Josh Smith, *Blake Griffin aren't better than Rajon Rondo.

*We need to see more from Blake than one year of stats.

We're not even maximizing Rondo's true potential.. Imagine if we had more shooters, quick and athletic players surrounding him.. Run and Gun Rondo with players like Derozan, Josh Smith , McGee, Harden - We'd be fun to watch!

I just think that we've been waiting for Rondo to take "That Next Step."

He's doing it.

This doesn't mean he won't have a bad game here or there, but so far he's improving in the areas that he's been hammered on (shooting, free throws).

I think he's getting there...certainly taking that next step.

Josh Smith and Monta Ellis are not top 20 players in the NBA.

GM's of any team would take Rondo over both of them.
Rondo can be and probably is a top 10-15 player in the NBA.
If he plays like this for the majority of the season he is certainly top 10 worthy. A lot of GM's would take Rondo over Carmelo and Stoudemire because of his defensive abilities.
Eg. Melo can score, but he has averaged less than 3 assists a game for his entire career and doesn't play any defense.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

  • Rondo = Good
Top 20, sure, when he's on his game (he's proven to be very inconsistent).

Top 5?  Take a break from the Koolaid, son.

I go easily top 15 knocking at the door of top 10... Top 5 is certainly a stretch. However, I put him ahead of Williams as far as PG rankings go... Williams has started off fairly terrible so far this season.

Um, yeah. Besides the obvious like Rodman, Shaq, Bill Russell, Jason Kidd only became a good shooter in the latter half of his career. Besides that, I do not agree that Rondo can not shoot, since he makes most of the jumpers he takes, he just doesnt take many of them.

If you really do not think Rajon Rondo is a top 20 player then the only way you evaluate greatness is by reading stat sheets (which Rondo also fills up) and are not a very good judge of greatness, sir.

Rondo seems a bit more confident taking a jump shot this year, maybe that will lead to actually taking and making more.  I think its all in his mind mostly .  He needs to develope that shooters confidence.

No kool aid, only the fine vintage wine that is Rajon Rondo.

Players definitively better:

1. Durant
2. James
3. Wade
4. Bryant
5. Howard
6. Rose
7. Chris Paul
8. Griffin
10. Dirk

Potential Betters:

Possibly Pierce
Possibly Deron Williams
Possibly Carmelo
Possibly Kevin Love

Rondo is top 15.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Griffin, Dirk, Melo, and Howard do not make their teem-mates better. The players I did not just list, do, but most do not to the extent that Rondo does. Rondo can take over a game by scoring, passing, and to a lesser extent, playing defense. Chris Paul and Durant can not do all those things. Therefore, Rondo is in the same class as Lebron, Wade, Kobe, and Derrick Rose. I do think Kevin Love is arguably a top 5 player as well though. You cant argue with the numbers he puts up and the leadership he exhibits.

Griffin, to me, doesn't deserve a top ranking, yet. He's not a lockdown defender, yet.

He's coming in with a whopping 118 defensive rating so far...and 107 last year? :o

Besides Sportsscenter highlights, Blake Griffin doesn't deserve a top ranking, IMO.

He has the potential to be, as soon as he shows a consistent ability to lead his team score 20-30 points with 10 dimes each night.

I say the same thing to Packer fans ready to anoint Rodgers as the NFL's best QB: Let's see him have the kind of remarkable consistency Brady has had over a career.

That is what separates hall of fame players from hall of fame talent.

Rondo's got all the talent in the world, and we've seen him string it together for stretches, but he must put together a full season at the very least.
