The backup plan in 2012 summer if we don't lure over Dwight Howard will be to re-sign our own free agents, KG,Allen and Bass to one-year deals (Bass could opt to stay) and signing Green to the QO, maybe signing Kaman to the larger MLE for one year.
Then the following summer Pierce could retire and earn 5M with Rondo's 12 million we'd have a lot to spend depending on the salary cap.

Just a few names that are unrestricted that year:
Josh Smith
Paul Millsap
Al Jefferson
Kevin Martin
Rashard Lewis
Lamar Odom

Restricted:
James Harden
Tyreke Evans
Blake Griffin
Taj Gibson
Demar Derozan

Player options:
Monta Ellis
Andre Iguodala
Ben Gordon

So Ainge will not trade KG for role players or Ray Allen for Kevin Martin or Monta Ellis (I get tired of reading trade ideas for Kmart or Ellis involving Ray or trading for Al Jefferson) when they could be had later.
This team has a future, but hopefully it doesn't involve Kevin Love or Russell Westbrook. Eric Gordon maybe but not to the max.

Only real options here are:

Josh Smith, Al Jefferson, James Harden (prob stays in OKC tho), Taj, and Iggy.

Everyone else is or will be asking for too much, overrated and defensive liabilities.

I always trade for Taj, Iggy, and Smith in 2k11. Not that that translate to the real game but their styles are great defensive and offensively.

Rondo, Iggy, Pierce, Smith, (insert big tall guy who can kind play D) Sign me up!
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

I would love to see a future team with Kevin Love and Eric Gordon would be worth a max deal.

You'd rather have Mayo over Iggy? Just for three's? Iggy can shoot em, obviously not like ray and Smith can hit them too which makes up for ray's loss and Iggy's few 3pt attempts. This squad could do it all and out run everyone especially with green in there too

I could see some of those guys being available for a max deal. I think you almost always have to overpay in order to sign a restricted Free Agent away from it's current club. It will be interesting to see how we proceed since all the talented players are indeed restricted.

With the cap room they should have for that year (assuming no DH), I'd go hard after Griffin and Harden.  If they get them to go with Rondo, great.  If not, sentence Clips and OKC to cap hell for resigning them with CP3/Jordan and Durant/Westbrook.

There's some pretty decent pickups on the unrestricted list but no max or close-to-max players so C's may be able to pick up a few of them.

I like none of those guys. Danny will be able to reload by accumulating draft picks and cap space, then trading for some guy unhappy with his team, who wants a change. Or else gets very lucky with a great draft pick, which given our middle of the pack near term destiny, is highly unlikely.  Ugh.
