This is only if we are going to blow it up.

Before the draft Atlanta was rumored to approach Boston about Smith for KG or Ray because they were a veteran on an expiring deal. They need size as well.

Kevin Martin has been rumored to be unhappy in Houston after the trade debacle that took place there. I seem to remember seeing him say that the Rocket's front office "had shown their hand." Anyways might be something where they decide to go with Courtney Lee and try to acquire cap space.

Quote
Kevin Martin hit just 1-of-10 shots from the field against the Magic on Monday, scoring four points with one steal and one assist. The TV crew kept referring to how Martin might be unhappy, and while we won't hold his slow start against him this early it's worth watching to see how he reacts post-CP3 trade.

Below are two trade scenarios depending on what Houston wants to do.

1) If Houston wants to free up some cap room and hold the rights to a couple potential assets in Hinrich and Bradley then they would be inclined to look at this one.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=c8sy39r

Atl gets KG, Thabeet, and Drafic
Bos gets Smith, Martin, and Pachulia
Hou gets JO, Hinrich, and Bradley ( & Picks from Boston and Atlanta)

2) If Houston wants a young perimeter player back then they can keep Lee and T-Will at the two and have Marvin at the three. Look at how much better Hollinger sees this deal making Houston.

Atl gets KG and Thabeet
Bos gets Smith and Martin
Hou gets Williams, Pachulia, and Bradley ( & Picks from Boston and Atlanta)

KG: "Dude.... What is up with yo shorts?!"

I think the only way Houston would do this deal, is if they get a bunch of first (three total). If this happened I would probably then deal Ray since we won't be a free agent player anymore next year. We could then move Ray as part of a three team to get Al Jefferson.
5-Jefferson
4-Smith
3-Pierce
2-Martin
1-Rondo

That is probably a better roster than we have now but maybe not. It would however, be a better team next year.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Would love this since we are only giving up KG, JO and Bradley in exchange for good players.
Rondo and Smith are really good friends from back at Oak Hill.
If we land Smith, we might also get Dwight, they are really good friends from what i hear..
Jack of all trades, master of none.

Smith is looking better all the time.  While I never cared for him as a person, I have to wonder if we 'd get more out of him than others.  Rooting for Pachulia would be hard for me, he has played dirty against us.

I think this deal is a no-brainer for Boston. Hell, KG for Smith straight up might be the way to go at the deadline if the Hawks are still interested.

EDIT: I also don't think Houston does either one unless they get some serious picks. Maybe the second?

so basically we give up crap + end-of-the-road KG for the 2 best players in the entire deal?

neither Atl or Hou would touch this

Yeah neither trade makes sense for the other teams, though I do think trades could be made with each of those teams or as a 3 way.

This works

Boston - Kevin Martin, Marvin Williams, Goran Dragic, Vladimir Radmanovic
Houston - Ray Allen, Jeff Teague, Jannero Pargo
Atlanta - Kevin Garnett

Atlanta keeps its core and gets a veteran big man for bench players and Jeff Teague.  Houston loses Kevin Martin, but gets a similar, though older, player on a much better long term contract and gets a young solid player in Teague.  Boston finds a long term replacement for Allen, gets essentially another Green, and depth.  Obviously the trade hurts the C's down low and definitely affects the cap situation next summer, but long term it makes the team better and gives Rondo some more young runnning mates.

On an odd note, Hollinger says that the Hawks will lose 44 wins with the trade, seems a bit strange.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

No thanks. heres a idea ride this year out. in the offseason use our cap space to sign teir1 talent. offer kg and ray vet min deals for next year. Hope for the healthy return of jeff green.

lastly figure out who on this roster is worth keeping around for a championship run next year.  any trade of the big 3 this year is only going to return marginal talent on bad contracts. a receipe for diaster.

what tier 1 talent?  They aren't going to come to Boston.
