I know people are crapping on this guy because he's our only shot at a good center. But if the C's can he 6pt, 8rbp, and 3 blocks a game, isn't that better than what JO is giving us at this point. Then teams would be scared to attack the basket with him and KG underneath.

He's not a solid one on one defender, and dosen't box out, but Im sure with Doc and KG on his case by the end of the year he will be. Seems like a coach able kid.

If he is a 6/8/3 guy (in what I assume would be 20-25 MPG) why is he a non-entity in the NBA at age 26?  I suppose late blooming does happen, but it's not like a guy who is just about 7' with long arms gets overlooked. He's had opportunities and couldn't make the Twolves or Cavs (post-Lebron) rosters.

He was the only bright spot on Wednesday and I hope he can be a contibutor.

I was watching some show on ESPN2 late last night and someone on the show tried to push the nickname "Ivory Tower".

Late blooming especially happens with really big guys who work hard and are smart.  Having setbacks in college (in his case, depression and resulting academic ineligibility) and playing way, way overseas can also help hide a guy while he develops.  He certainly made his mark and got noticed in the D league.

Now he's got the perfect situation to really flourish: good coaching, good veteran teammates and positional opportunity.  He's not the second coming of Wilt, Shaq or Kareem, but I think his ceiling is above 'serviceable'.

I think the nickname has been sorted out:

Quote
3. Greg Stiemsma had a solid debut Wednesday night in New Orleans. The former D-League Defensive Player of the Year tallied six blocked shots in 17 minutes of playing time. Even when “Stiemroller” (the nickname he told WEEI.com he likes to be called) didn’t get a hand on shots, he made things harder at the rim for attacking Hornets. In a shortened season, efforts from the University of Wisconsin product like the one on Wednesday could bring the Celtics a long way towards righting the ship.

Steimroller it is!
"If somebody would have told you when he was playing with the Knicks that Nate Robinson was going to change a big time game and he was going to do it mostly because of his defense, somebody would have got slapped."  Mark Jackson

Stiem-Roller it is.....
