Indeed nailed it.

This thread is not a "face palm" for me, more of a face punch.  Ugh.

I third this sentiment. I open threads like this for the shear amusement of it because it never fails that at least ONCE a day amusing statements like the OP now appear. Seriously, give it a break for a while. While everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion at least try to base it on logic instead of off the cuff rhetoric that has no way of being justified at this point and time. If you would have started your statement by saying IN COLLEGE....then at least it would have had the chance to be valid because that's really all you can judge either of them by! Sweetney  hasn't had much of a pro career and Johnson has been here what a month? Yet you want someone to PROVE to you that you are incorrect? ROFLLLLLLOL!

SMH... ::) ::)

  • You say when......
I am so with the originator, Sweetney would have helped us vs the knicks in the last 5 mnutes because he would have given us the insde, post up presence, with kg on one side, bass, ray for outsde threat, rondo...Sweetney has the power of Howard, with the post moves of Mchale...use hm as a specialist..what would the knicks do...foul him or watch hm score..i have seen plenty of him in the post..if you haven't..it is beautiful to watch...and on D..he can block shots, hold the paint, take charges..and be the ENFORCER that we NEED..!

And for the record, I am sure there are plenty of people on here who have battled with weight every bit as much as Sweetney.  And I will tell you, it is a hell of a lot harder to deal with that, when you don't have the motivation and assets of being a professional athlete to help with it.

So, no, he is not getting any sympathy from me.  If he wants to get in better shape, then hire a dietician and person trainer, and do it.  Until then, he is just a fatty trying to play basketball.

I guess the paragraph in that story about him losing his dad to death as a young 20-something while being a rookie with the Knicks was overlooked.  He admits that was a tough time in his life that led to depression (which created the over-eating).  But NBA players should be above those kind of emotions, correct?  I mean, we shouldn't have feelings for a guy whose dad died during a transitional phase in his life? SMH...

I wanna see him race my toddler up and down the court 7 times in a row. If he can't beat him then he's not a pro athlete and has not spot on my team. I'm not sure he can do it.  I definitely don't think he can beat Vince Wilfork up and down the court 7 times.

Anyone remember when this (listed) 320 lb. guy played for the Celtics a few years ago?

I feel bad for him losing his Dad.  However, I don't believe that has anything to do with him being unable to control his weight right now...and if it does, then he should be dealing with those issues, in order to get past them, rather than trying to revive his NBA career at 380 pounds.

So why does his being overweight bother you so much?

Did you get an invite to camp? :)

It doesn't bother me.  I find it fascinating to see him try to do stuff he could do 100 pounds ago.  I just don't think we should be making him into a victim.  He is in a position any one of us would give anything for, and he has the means to revive his career if he really wants to put the work in.

I am not one to promote calling anyone names, but I think Sweetney is not the person to fight that battle over.

Not to speak for Chris, but it's always sad to see untapped potential and wasted talent, whatever the reason.  Sweetney could have been a heck of a player, but he never will be, largely due to his will power.

Very sad. Lot of talent going to waste.

Eating disorders/addictions can be just as devastating, career and health and longevity-wise (see Robt Traylor) and are more insidious than regular substance abuse issues.
