time to make a move for MAYO?

OJ only played 17 minutes in his first game, it is becoming very obvious that he is not in the long term plans for the grizz. I think the time to make a move for him is now. After watching out first game I like what i see from this team and beleive with the addition of a scoring guard to spell ray we can make one last push for #18.

Trade

JO + Avery +2nd or if needed a 1st just top 15protected and not this year

for

Mayo

Cs obviously lose size (this hurts) so they would have to try to sign Fesco,Dampier, Etan Thomas,Prybilla?? or maybe powe. However i think JO is going to break down over this fast 66 games and not be a help come playoff time. I like avery talent but he is to underdeveloped offensively to help for this season. OJ averaged 18pts a game as a rookie and hasnt grown from that point however on a vet team with a great pg he has the talent to grow into a fringe allstar down the road and take major minutes away from Ray this year leaving us in better shape for the playoffs. He also gives us a go to second unit player so the paul and ray can both be on the bench together.

The Grizz get a vet backup center and a young guard. They are really on the verge of being a contender and the addition of a vet like JO will really help them. They also save themselves 1 year of paying OJs salary as JO is a FA after this year.

We probably need JO more than Mayo this year at this point.
Getting Pietrus is probably enough now.

They'd probably take Bradley + a pick.
Did you see how useless Mayo was against the Spurs today?
I'd offer em Pav+Bradley+a pick for Mayo.

I think C's fans overrate Mayo (for starter potential) but I'd like him as a second unit 2 guard.

Jeez Louise if they're willing to give up OJ Mayo for Jermaine O'Neal, why the hell not? OJ Mayo is a young, top 50 player. JO is a has been (although it'd pain me to see him go. He put in work this summer.)

I can see where giving up our starting center for a Sg isnt typically a great idea but in the long run it will win us more games. I can really see OJ growing as a player with doc as his coach and playing next to rondo and the big 3. I would even offer up our first this year and JO which i think the grizz would jump on. Then try to flip avery for a big.

Since when is Mayo a top 50 player? He can't even get off the bench in Memphis, why should we trade our starting center, heck, our only center for him? We are all set with Pietrus and Daniels off the bench, Mayo wouldn't get playing time here either. If we really want him for the future, I'm sure he will be easy enough to obtain this summer without screwing up our shot this year by trading JO.

Of course you make that deal, but Memphis won't.  We're going to have to give up some kind of piece that can be perceived as valuable...we saw we couldn't just move JO for West.

I don't think Memphis would really want that much in return for Mayo. Last year, they traded him for Josh McRoberts. The deal only fell through because the 3rd team didn't get back to them until 3:01 or something. Over the summer, I was hoping Ainge would sign and trade Davis for him.
I think Mayo needs 2 things to become a very good NBA player - minutes and a purpose.

I would love Mayo on this team but we trade Mayo for JO and who starts at center for us? It makes our front court even more thin than it already is. And with Allen/Daniels/Pierce/Pietrus Mayo as a fifth option might not be as important as having a center.

Would love to bring him in, but its risky to trade our starting center for a fifth wing man, and Bradley and a second rounder is certainly not going to get it done.

The idea is that by trading for Mayo is that he becomes our 3rd wing and 3rd scoring option behind paul and ray

after watching last nights game I would definitely push for a JO+1st or JO+Avery for Mayo trade. JO is proving that he will be a serviceable back up but not a starting center. He would fit in well as the M Gasol's backup. I would rather bring in mayo's athleticism and scoring and find a journey man big to replace JO. Our best lineup is KG at center and bass at PF, why not back that up with wilcox at center and powe at PF?

Why not Bradley/Moore and a second round pick?? They get another Tony Allen like defender, and a prospect? I don't think Memph really wants him on the team, probably want to dump him for less than he's worth.

So if they don't want him do we, could be a head case, but the C's have done well in the most part with those types of players.
