I wouldn't say this is necessarily correct. Garnett and O'Neal are actually pretty big trade chips because of the nature of their contracts. It's absolutely not going to happen, but if Boston offered up Garnett in a trade, they'd get a lot of interest from teams going after Dwight or Deron Williams. Any team that thinks they have a shot at landing one of the big FAs and needs to open up cap space will latch on to huge expiring contracts, regardless of the player's ability.

That's if they actually expect DH to make it to free agency.

Well, of course that was implied. That's the risk a team has to take sometimes, though. It's a better option than stockpiling average players on 3 year deals that won't help the team win a title.

Ray will get less in return than Rondo, but Ray would probably be easier to move considering his expiring deal and the likelihood that he could fit into any team. He is an elite shooter, has good size at the 2, and understands team defense.

Trading for Rondo means a big commitment from the other team. They would have to give up an all star caliber player.

The player who is most likely to bring back more than he is worth might be Avery Bradley.

The expiring contracts of O'Neal, Garnett, and Allen are difficult because teams that trade for them usually want to dump longer contracts.  If you were going to blow up the team and trade KG, is there any player you want that another team wants to be rid of who is signed to a similar sized contract that goes beyond 2012?  Jermaine O'Neal makes less so is probably easier to trade.  Plus, there are always teams looking to shore up their big man rotation.  I am not sure if I would trade him for someone signed to a full MLE mistake contract and a first round pick from a playoff team, but that is what he might be able to bring in.
