this is a pretty nice story that goes towards the celtics brotherhood/chemistry...hes still taking shots/hanging out with the team even though he isnt really under contract to do so.

from experience, worst part of being injured is not being a part of team, it can't hurt for resigning him if this current contract is in fact voided

A nice read.  Interesting that Green was able to establish such a strong bond with the team so quickly.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Very nice.  By all counts he's a quality young man, and I think they have a good group altogether.  He and Daniels are both good stories.  I think KG's setting the pace for a higher level of mentorship than ever from the Big Three--and they seem to have the young guys to soak it up.

It's not just his job though, it's his life.
These are his friends- he hits the block with them every day and goes into battle with them.
Having the support of those guys makes it much easier and he can take his mind off the big operation coming up in 17 days.
Good for team chemistry as well.
Hope he comes back better and stronger than ever.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Exactly.  Just shows the type of person this kid is.  He could be with his family for the holidays.  He could be with his best friends in Oklahoma.  But he's here, because he wants to be a Celtic.  With all these stars complaining about not wanting to play in Boston, it's nice to have a guy like Jeff Green wanting to be here.  He will become a star in this league.  He is skilled, athletic, has high IQ and top character.

It actually does hurt if you sign him to a minimum one-year contract and he becomes an unrestricted free agent, so it is not in the team's best interests to sign him until he is ready to play.  Plus, he would take up a roster spot.  But, as a restricted free agent, he is still an asset and it is in the team's best interests to be as supportive as possible short of actually signing him to a contract until he is recovered.
"The worst thing that ever happened in sports was sports radio, and the internet is sports radio on steroids with lower IQs.” -- Brian Burke, former Toronto Maple Leafs senior adviser, at the 2013 MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference

He isn't going to get paid by any NBA team this year.  And it's actually to his benefit to use the teams resources.  And don't you think he might be a little appreciative of the medical staff for potentially saving his life?

Love this organization. Its family atmosphere. I heard they'll be paying all of Green's medical bill including his rehab. Back in July when ShaQ announced his retirement, they bought him a giant RV retirement present. Players appreciate & remember these gestures. Celtics are a top notch organization. And Jeff Green will be a Celtic for a longtime.

If Jeff's going to be hanging around the team this year, I wonder if it's possible to get him some kind of salary as a special assistant coach or something for the season.

I kind of agree with Thumper on this one.  If he's going to be around and the team wants him around, they should find some way to get him a paycheck.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

I agree with this too. The team has enough money, sign him to some type of non-player job that doesn't count against the cap. It shouldn't be for a ton of money, but they could give him a decent, normal working guy salary for a year.

Not trying to be cynical, but how do you know the team has enough money to sign him to some type of non-player job that doesn't count against the cap?  So many of us assume that corporations "have it" to give to employees.  Almost like it's an obligation for companies/corporations/teams to share it.

I do agree though, that it would be a nice gesture.  I really hope they hook him up.
