Preferably Deron Williams on a max FA contract next year after trading Rondo/picks/scrubs for another building block. However, if they don't want to risk that then they could always try to make a trade with Rondo/rookies/picks for Westbrook.

I've been thinking about it a lot lately, and find the whole rebuilding process fascinating. It's really interesting to think about imo.

IDK, I'd kind or rather hold onto Rondo.

If more scoring is what's needed, it should be one of the Big 3 we look to move.

Rondo is the league's best PG in seemingly every other measure, and he's young enough to build around.

Did you see what Derrick Rose just got for an extension. I know that Westbrook considers himself just as good as Rose is. If he makes another All Star team then he can command that kind of money. Whether he gets it or not is one thing. I know OKC won't give him Derrick Rose money, but he will be asking for it.

Is it me, or does Westbrook remind anyone of a young Steph Marbury?

I don't think Deron's available just yet, and I think Rondo for Westbrook's a pretty big gamble.  Rondo's locked up on a pretty friendly contract.  Westbrook's about to be an RFA and will likely command the max by virtue of his scoring averages.

I can see the argument for Westbrook - bigger, younger, stronger, more potential to improve his shot, more scoring ability - but I don't find it compelling enough to pull the trigger.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

As high-scoring, athletic PGs, sure.  Westbrook is a much better rebounder and defender than Marbury ever was though.  More powerful.   Marbury the better ball-handler, more skilled.

You don't give up Rondo until you've got either Howard or DWill agreeing to come to Boston.  Those are really the only two "franchise" guys on the FA market next year and you can't ship out Rondo on just the hope of signing them.

And frankly, I'm not sure you automatically ship out Rondo if you can land Howard.  Yes, you'd worry about teams packing the lane against them but with those two, I think it's pretty clear that Boston would transition to a much more up tempo team.

Dwight Howard would love to have a PG who can actually throw a post entry pass, and hit a roll man.

Jameer Nelson just can't do either of those things consistently, and it has held the Magic back offensively for years.

I doubt that Deron Williams is available right now, but if you can trade Rondo and pieces to get Williams now, you have a much bigger chance of getting him to resign here cause he'll be able to sign for a lot more money - then with Dwill being locked up here that could mean getting Dwight Howard. It's all wishful thinking, but it's the best possible scenario.

I was also thinking mentality-wise.  I see the Westbrook/Durant relationship playing out much in the same way Marbury/KG did.

RW wants to average just as many pts, create and take the big shots, get that max contract --- all the while he's playing next to the best player in the league.

If he'd just work with Kevin instead of trying to outwork him, they'd be the NBA's next dynasty.

pursue . . . how exactly?

free agents aren't interested in Boston, and we have don't have a trade package that would really entice either player's team.

deron williams would be an upgrade over rondo, but westbook would be a downgrade imo

With Lopez's injury I don't see the Nets trading for Howard, and because of that, I don't see Deron Williams wanting to stay in Brooklyn.  The Celtics can give him a max contract next year with a better coach, a better fanbase, and a franchise with a history of success.

If we got Dwight Howard, that would be when we most certainly dont give up rondo. Rondo is the reason he would come. If all we have is DH, then were just like the magic.
