I know, he's the face of the franchise, but despite his statistical career year last year, I think he is just going to gradually decline from this point.

Nobody is untouchable, and if we could get legitimate prospects back, yes.

But that ain't gonna happen.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Only if he asked to be traded.

IMO, he's earned the honor of retiring a Celtic.

Also I think trading him for some prospects or whatever would look really bad in the mind of players.

I would agree.  As a Celtics fan, I have no desire to see Pierce traded.

Wow you think a 34 year old wing player is going to decline from this point out? Bold

He goes no where because you couldnt get enough in return for him, he out played carmelo in playoffs and stood up to lebron two of the 4 best small forwards in the league.

Sure if someone is trading me an elite proven young talent, yes, but no one is giving us that for a 34 year old wing.

PP is a celtic until the end and I am happy about it

Pierce has two more years as a Celtic, this year and in 2012/13.

The final year Pierce has only 4 to 5 million guaranteed and the Celtics could waive him, but I think he'll announce his retirement after the 2012/13 season.

So no, we don't trade him and no use of amnesty either, if we have Rondo and a Max free agent signed next summer Pierce could keep us under the cap in 2013/14 if he's retired.

Which makes me wonder why Ainge didn't fully guarantee his final year, Ainge thinks if he failed getting Howard next year or CP trade that failed he could have the 2013 offseason to go after a max contract player.

for anyone to even think to trade him while he has some value, youth movement etc SHAME
it goes against everything boston celtics

only way I'd trade him is a ray bourque like deal where he asks to be traded to a contender to end his career, of course paul has a championship and ray never did

A $15M contract with only 4 to 5 million guaranteed is a great trade chip, especially when dealing with teams looking to clear cap space.

I would not trade him just for the sake of getting younger.  I would want to get back more than I give, and Paul Pierce gradually declining means he goes from All-Star to still easily above average, so I would want a lot.  I would trade him if it was obvious the other team was giving up way too much to acquire him.  I wouldn't trade him if the value was equal or nearly equal.

At the end of this season he will almost certainly be #2 on the Celtic all-time scoring list, and floating somewhere around 26 or 27 on the league all-time scoring list. Let him retire in Green.

I think Ainge could trade him only if he failed to build a competitive team this coming summer, maybe Pierce doesn't want to be part of a rebuilding proccess. So there's a chance, maybe both Pierce and Ainge agreed to that, but I don't see how it could happen eventhough looking at the teams best interest Pierce contract would hinder the development of the team .
