Broken record for sure, but honestly deserved in a way.
They always have those core guys so people shouldn't count them out too much, but the surprising thing is usually the supporting talent which always seems to overachieve expectations (Neal, Hill, Blair for example). So I think that is what usually makes the Spurs surprising.
Also, you're still waiting for Duncan to not have it anymore. Last year he lost a few steps on everything but rebounding. I don't know how much more he has in him.
But that being said, there is also a little too much made of the Spurs genius organization (people act like they never make mistakes, as if Richard Jefferson never was on the team making good money).
It's also worth considering a Spurs drop off because of the shake up in the West. The Clippers are certainly on the rise, the Thunder seem ready to take another step, Memphis has seen what they are capable of (and they didn't even have their most talented player in Gay playing in the Playoffs last year). The Lakers seem like they are going to be worse though, so who knows. Definitely uncertainty in the West though and young teams continue to line up behind the Spurs, it's just a matter of how much longer the Spurs have to be top tier in the West.
