I would think we're still searching for a couple pieces Jeffs replacement and hopefully another big man as well. Why no talks on any potential signings ? You think maybe well ride it out and try and nab someone coming from overseas later on in the season ( is that possible)?

You know Danny's got a thing or two up his sleeve still but surprised we haven't heard much other than speculation.

Don't be shocked if the C's just sign a guy like Gilbert Brown to a non-guaranteed deal and basically stand pat.

Danny might feel like it's not worth it to pursue anybody else given the circumstances, or there might just not be any decent players on the market for the veteran minimum.

Seems Marquis is back and healthier than he has been in a while.  he and a Posey would be good in my book.  Posey would bring a bunch of the intangibles back, as he is very smart, and handles pressure well.  Just worry about his lack of athleticism.  Seems the rest of our bench is more athletic than years past so that could soften the blow. I'm thrilled we have wilcox, bass, Johnson and Dooling out there.  None will have that Deer in headlights look (AKA Avery Bradley)

If we can patch it together with a Posey, Thornton or a Deshawn Stevenson I think we'll be okay.  But we do need another big as counting on JO is just ludicrous..

Joel P.  Please come to the Green, Just for 1 season!!

Or we might be on the verge of the biggest breaking up of a Celtics group since the last time it was done.

I dont think Ainge is done.

Some of it could just be because of the whole Jeff Green thing. I think Danny has been really involved with that, and has taken a lot of his time. Im sure he was thinking of plan a,b,c, for what ever was going to happen with Jeff. So Im sure in the next few days we'll hear of some thing.

Little or Big...

I'm surprised as well that there hasn't been more speculation floating around about who'll take Green's spot on the roster.  I'm hoping Danny can find a serviceable 2/3 left out there.  We need someone to back up Quisy.

Posey isn't the answer.  Too old and slow now to cover SFs.

if that's going to happen, i believe it'll happen at the deadline or around the draft.  doesn't make much sense to do it now, unless some time is willing to help us out on making an all-in move (like a certain Suns trade I've advocated).

To get max value out of green contract would need to trade with team looking to dump a high salary and willing to take on green salary without his services. So celts ccould add value by including another player and draft pick. Trade green ($9 mil) to Orlando who wants to get rid of Turkoglu ($11 mil) and include Sasha (same position) and draft pick. Green avg. 10 pts last year - same as Turkoglu.

Personally I don't think it has anything to do with the Celtics and everything to do with the fact that there are still a bunch of teams out there with MLEs, MMLE's, LLE's and cap space to spend.

The agents are holding out to see if those teams are going to fill those higher than veteran minimum levels salary spots with their clients. Once the agents for free agents feel that just veteran minimum money is left out there, then they will start looking to see which contending teams will give their clients a vet min contract.

Everyone knows that Boston only has the vet min, so why jump at that when you know they will be ready to give it to you later. Shop around and see what is available for more money. What's it gonna hurt.

There was no chatter when we signed wilcox, or traded for bass and dooling.  I'm sure ainge is looking into something.

I am worried Danny won't sign more depth on the wing. Just like last season after TA left. That Danny will feel good about Marquis and the guys behind him (E.Moore, S.Pavlovic, G.Brown) and leave it at that.

Not at all comfortable on being that reliant on Marquis Daniels staying healthy.

Agree. Marquis always looks strong, healthy and ready after 4 months off. After a couple of months of physical play, he will be injured again...at least that's his history.

Sorry I don't have a link, but I read an article earlier today that said the C's can only use the injured player exception ($4.5m) IF they sign and pay Jeff Green the $9m this year.  Considering the team is well over the cap, that means adding $9m + luxury tax + $4.5m to sign a guy of that value.  That scenario does not seem very likely, and we're probably looking at a vet min guy to replace Green.

yeah, that concerns me as well.  however, signing a guy like Posey, all sentimental value aside, is not the answer to that problem.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I will not be surprised if Danny and Wyc decide to go deep into luxury tax territory to sign someone like Kirilenko.

This is the last year that the big 3 will be together, and they will give it everything they can.
Hell, they were willing to go after JO and put us deeper with West.
They will make one more move.
Jeff was 10-15ppg off the bench which they need to replace and I think people are underrating how important he was to the bigger picture of success this season.
Lets hope Wyc is feeling generous.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
