After Jeff Green news I was quietly hoping Boston gave him a full year shot to produce & not be rushed to learn the system in a month like last year. With 24-28 mins. I thought he could be a 13pt. 7reb performer off the bench & help spread the floor for Rondo penetrate & kicks. And we can use 6'11 however we can get it.

There will be minutes available for him to get his value back up.  The Lakers must be really counting on Bynum staying healthy this year.

I can rest easy knowing that the Lakers won't get 17 this year.

i don't like this because troy murphy has played very very well in the past, and i was hoping we would sign him.  he could help the lakers a lot, and that bothers me.  plus troy murphy is tall.

oh boy, josh mcroberts and troy murphy!  the lakers are guaranteed a title now.

those two combined with pau will definitely make sure the lakers' frontcourt can't be accused of playing soft.

A healthy Troy Murphy will put up very good rebounding and scoring numbers period. This is our loss and the Lakers gain. They need bigs just as badly as we do. Judging Murphy on a single year when he was hurt and rehabbing is just silly.

Or I could be wrong and he is toast. Lets hope so.....

I'm limited in my knowledge of Murphy, but from watching him in Celtics games, he seemed decent - Am I wrong?

Anyway, I'm just happy the Lakers have bodies.

No, he didn't even approach decent.  Terrible defense, and he couldn't find his jumper.  Even his rebounding was poor.

He was, in a word, terrible.  Worse, he looked cooked.  There were rumors from NJ that injuries had sapped his athleticism, both due to issues with his back and legs; those rumors suggested that Murphy couldn't get on the court because he wasn't physically able to, rather than because of his relationship with Avery Johnson.  The rumors about his lack of ability certainly seemed to play out in Boston.

He's worth a minimum contract, just as an upside signing.  However, I don't think he'll help much next year.

I think the prevailing hope here was that he would, after some time, shake off the rust from his extended period of inactivity in NJ, and turn into a solid contributor.  That never happened, and the Celtics ran out of time to wait on him returning to form.  Maybe it was indeed extended rust, but he sure did look to be cooked.
Yup

I too hoped he would retain his old form but it never happened.   If LA is hoping he can replace Odom they got another thing coming.

If this three-point shooting hadn't fallen off a cliff, he would have been a useful player.  If he recovers and gets back to at least 33%, then he probably will end up being a great pick-up for the minimum.

I don't know.  A guy who plays atrocious defense and only hits 33% from outside isn't that valuable a player -- even for the minimum -- unless his rebounding improves.

The great thing about Murphy was always that, despite his short-comings, he was always an excellent rebounder and a 40% three point shooter.  If he drops to below-average in both of those categories, he doesn't belong in the league.

Bad signing

T.Murphy is too slow ... LA needs quickness from their backup PFs to play alongside Pau and Bynum. This only exacerbates their current defensive flaws.
