Paul Pierce, who has been dealing with a right heel injury throughout training, will not play in Sunday's game against the Raptors, though Celtics team trainer Ed Lacerte thought Pierce's heel may be improved to where he could play at Toronto.

With the injury bug hitting us this badly and the first preseason game hasn't even been played yet, how are we suppose to field in team come April?

A little worrisome but I think its more precautionary than anything else. He'll be on the court on Christmas day.

The bug isn't bad yet... I'm just glad THIS time Doc won't force it! When someone needs to sit, let/make them sit! Hopefully holding them back until it's a must (playoffs), is a trend Doc is trying to set. If he had forced more rest on the guys last season who knows what happens... Mia didn't blow us out, we usually lost in the fourth quarter b/c we overexerted our main guys (my opinion of course)! Not an excuse, Mia was better... not better talent wise, it's because playing all those minutes isn't as wearing on guys in their 20s and their prime as it is for our 30+ year olds... they could keep it up for many games, we couldn't, as you saw us lose in the fourth quarter pretty much each time!
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Settle down, guys. Doc Rivers has said he isn't treating this preseason exhibitions as games at all. He is sitting Pierce to avoid the risk of an injury. Big deal. I would do the same thing. It's not worth it.

EDIT: Honestly, if I were Doc, I wouldn't play any of the Big 3 in this preseason. I would use it as a sort of trial by fire for the bench crew.

ha...good one.

but i'm not worried since we have a tough enforcer at center to provide defense and rebounds.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Too bad we don't still have Wafer, this would be the perfect time for him to get his confidence back.  Much better fit with Rondo than Daniels (who is the worst possible fit) and tons more upside as a 12th man than Sasha.

Obviously not a difference-maker, but let's be honest our bench sucks right now.  Who other than Bass can score a bucket?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Good, let him rest.

But this heel stuff really scares me.  Injured heels can be really bad news.
