Is it me or did the Clippers make a bad trade?

I woldnt call it a bad trade, but they definetly gave up to much. They probobly should have tried to give Bledsoe or Williams or both rather than Gordan. Now they have a lot of solid pgs, not enough pplaying time to go around.

My guess is that the Clippers explored all kinds of options:  adding Bledsoe and perhaps a #1 in place of Gordon, offering to take back Trevor Ariza's salary in return for Mo Williams, etc.  In the end, the league insisted on Gordon, and the Clippers made the deal necessary to get a superstar in camp before the season opener.

I think this is a good deal for the Clippers, and it's a good start to rebuilding for the Hornets.

Clippers look like a pretty good team to me.  If I were a Clippers fan I would be excited this year...good depth and a few pieces for later trades...

Kaman cant stay healthy, isnt really a good fit and they have 2 very good young bigs in Griffin and Jordan
Gordon can put up numbers but im just wondering what exactly hes done...not exactly transformed the clippers into a winner...chris paul will
Aminu? it was just his rookie season but he makes tony allen look like an all-star
Hornets are going absolutely nowhere and Gordon and Kaman will likely be injured most of the year...exactly like they were last season

That backcourt is absolutely loaded right now...maybe too loaded considering available minutes.  Meanwhile that front court could reeeeeally use some vet presence.  Any rumblings about a smaller move for a big?

The Clippers will be better this season when they were last season. At worst they will be a very exciting team to watch and they can only get better from here.

But I honestly don't think that any Celtics fan is in a position to be criticizing other teams trades when we made one of, if not THE worst trades in recent NBA history.

Will they make a push for Marcus Thorton? The Kings might not want to give him up judging from the contract, even for Mo Williams and Bledsoe.

I hope they screw it up We get our Clipper pick and I get to watch Blake Griffin lobs anyway. Plus less competition for us. Am I a bad person? D:

I think the Clips got HOSED.  They never should have given up Gordon AND Minny's pick.  The Sports Guy did a nice breakdown of two guards in the league recently (see the sidenote)...

...and made a nice point that there are actually many more all-star caliber point guards at this point than shooting guards in the NBA.  Gordon is an all star caliber guard and Minny's pick will very likely be a top 4 pick.  Plus Kamen's expiring deal AND their starting SF. Paul is a star but this is lopsided in favor of NO.

Also, I've said this before and I'll say it again...Chris Paul is one more major knee injury away from being Brandon Roy'ed. Very risky.

don't believe they gave up too much.  look at their roster, still stacked with above average talent, that some will probably be cut  since it appears as though they have twenty players on the roster.  love to get our hands on foye!

yeah, Paul / Griffin is the best big man pairing since Stockton / Malone (some have written it's the best since Magic and Kareem, but I'm not gonna go that far yet).

if you can put together the next Stockton / Malone pairing, you trade anybody on your roster and any picks that you have stored up to do it.

Great guard combinations, but where do the minutes go ? Whose sitting the pine ? Was guard the problem last year ?

Who is backing up their 3, 4, and 5 positions ?  Ryan Gomes ?  LOL.

I see them with a better start than last year (started 3-15), but with new players and a limited training camp, it won't be that much better.

Depth at guard, no depth down low.  I see them improving from last year, but still land somewhere around 7th, 8th, or 9th in the West.

I thought it was an overall fair trade for both sides.

The Clippers got a top 5-7 player in the league to pair with what will undoubtedly be another top 5 player in the league fairly soon. That's a formula for huge success. The already had committed to Jordan long term over Kaman so losing Kaman is no big deal. They just signed Caron Butler, a very good SF when healthy for some years so they have an extremely good core going forward with current and future superstars, a large and long developing center and an seasoned vet at SF.

They still have Eric Bledsoe, Willie Warren, and Trey Thompkins as extremely young talent to develop and solid vets in Ryan Gomes, Randy Foye, Mo Williams and Chauncey Billups around to compliment them.

I thought the trade great for both teams.

Good trade for both teams... Clippers are now very legit ..gave up a nice player in Gordon though and as stated before lack depth. But most of all this move is to keep Griffin in town long term rather than having him depart for elsewhere ( especially cross town after next year)

I think this was a "phenomenal" trade for the Clippers and a "good" trade for the Hornets.

Clippers:

DeAndre Jordan / Hubbard / Fesenko
Griffin / C. Smith or R. Evans / Trey Thompkins
Butler / Gomes / Moon
Billups / Warren / Foye
Paul / Bledsoe / Williams

Teams win with star power...

* With Blake Griffin and Chris Paul, the Clippers are    immediately in contention.  
* You add in a very nice 3rd option in Caron Butler
* A maturing, athletic and defensive minded young center...

* I added examples of vet min guys - in Reggie Evans and Fesenko - who would probably now be more than happy to join this team on the cheap with Paul and Griffin - and who would hope to then be re-signed long term at higher rates after proving themselves...

The off guard position:
* They may in fact miss Gordon. However, and this is a big "however" to me, they could easily trade Beldsoe and a pick for a nice young off guard
* They could also package Mo Williams expiring contract or trade Bledsoe next season for a good young off guard.

Kaman? Replaceable and not their long term solution at center. They need the good defensive presence of Jordan along side the offense of Griffin...
Gordon? See packaging Williams or trading Bledsoe
Aminu? Caron Butler is a good vet presence that will get the Clippers further right now. They can draft another good young SF
1st round pick? No guarantee...

Lastly, with Griffin and Chris Paul the Clippers have just become the biggest show in town, far and away...

Hornets get a good young Off guard, a promising young SF, a serviceable center and a 1st round draft pick. Not bad for someone who was going to walk away...

Also, this is far better then Scola, Martin and Odom - none of whom are "special" and who are older...

The Clippers just sold out their season by adding Paul.
