jesus dude, if you're gunna talk "blowing it up", can you at least provide some solid cap-flexibility and get us some decent value in the trades?

The Rondo one is solid, although maybe too much coming our way for Minny to go for it

Why are we trading KG who is expiring for a terrible contract and a pick that won't be worth our while (you actually think they would trade that as an unprotected pick, assuming Howard gets dealt, which I don't know if you've read much, but he apparently is not...)

The Allen trade is insulting, and the Pierce trade is a lateral move at best.....

Here's an idea on "blowing it up"

Stop whining about our team getting older.....

recognize the fact that KG, Allen, and JO are off the books by the end of the season anyway, so they can walk and we have actual cap-space to work with in 2012/13.....let the team play it out as is, and next season maybe KG/Allen come decide to come back at discounted rates because they both actually want to be here, and we get to throw max-money at whomever we choose, rather than being stuck with the Hedo Turkeyglues of the world

you don't blow it up before a season starts anyway.....KG/Allen become more valuable as expiring contracts when the trade deadline approaches, especially because they are contributing players. They are some of the only good things to happen to this team in the last decade and you want to throw them out like last weeks garbage....

BANISH THE OP

I threw out some ideas to try and get us draft picks to help rebuild as I feel its absolutely the right way to go in this matter. But why do you want to banish me? I've been lurking around here for a while I have nothing but respect for good debate on the matter. Maybe my examples weren't good but again my opinion and that's what it is, my opinion is that it doesn't make sense to play the 2012 Boston Celtics as presently constructed.

I'll also say this, I don't want to throw out KG and Ray I would like to give them a better shot to win a title while helping the Celtics not become the Celtics after Bird left. I think that is a scenario that everyone wants to avoid.

Danny is not going to blow anything up this year. Last year the starting 5 had the best Off & Def efficiency in the NBA.  The problem was when any 2 of the 4 All-Stars were off the floor the Off. efficiency dropped like a rock.  The key this year is depth and having a bench that can score a bit more.  This year's bench is without a question better, it is yet to be seen if it will be enough.  Worse case scenario you can start moving pieces around the trade deadline.  As for being 1 injury away.....so is every team in the league.  Plenty of younger guys get hurt all the time.

The ideal situation is to have an abundance of draft picks (in a good draft--ie., next draft) AND cap space.  However, as we've seen in many cases over the years, Boston is not exactly a top destination of most free agents. As the younger generation of superstars continues to emerge, with their need for the flashy fast life, we become even more removed from desirability.  Thus, acquiring as many good draft picks next year is paramount.
As for watching the team this year, the new guys and especially the young guys are always one of the most enjoyable things about a new season, for me. So with or without the Geriatric 3 I'll still be a C's fan, just like the last 54 years.

If the C's aren't VERY relevant come trade deadline time, I wouldn't want to be standing to close to Danny's dynamite! ;D

Here's an idea. Sit back and enjoy a year of watching some of the best players that have ever played the game. Went through the "Rebuilding Years", trust me I can wait another year for that to start.

I agree with the OP. The team's current roster is just not going to cut it.

Nevermind the Heat or Bulls. Now that the Knicks acquired Chandler, I am even worried about them.

This current roster is a mid-tier Eastern Conference team that won't make it past the 2nd round.

Also, blowing up the roster doesn't necessarily mean "rebuilding." I think that word is being thrown around way too much.

It's about changing things up for today and tomorrow, while still trying to stay relevant. Right now, no star player wants to come here.

At least if you blow things up, something could come out of it.

If he feels blowing it up is the way to go, and has the right opportunity, fine.  If he does it, as is laid out here, I will never buy another ticket to a Celtics game until he is fired.

I really think Kaman would be the answer, throw the Hornets JO and Clippers #1. As long as he is not packaged with any players the trade should be good...right?

Too soon.

Let this team take it shot this year in a shorten season.

Look to make moves to give this team the best shot for this season.

If they fail, the rebuild starts next season.

If they succeed, the rebuild gets put off for another season.

No point in "blowing it up" right now. We would get 20 cents on the dollar for any of the big three. And I think we saw last year with the Perkins trade how damaging a shift in chemistry can be. This Celtics team, and all of the successful celtics teams for that matter, are built on the fact that the guys are willing to fight for eachother.

Blowing it up for disjointed pieces gets us none of that. In my opinion we're better off letting the Big 3 play out their careers, then building from the ground up.

here's the thing, we're not missing any opportunities by waiting to "blow it up" after this year

if you are over the cap and have an expiring contract but will still be over the cap when it expires, it is silly not to try to trade it for someone more productive

when you are going to be way under the cap, you'd be silly to trade for a big contract unless you are getting an all star or building block for the future

the team has options at the end of the year that go well beyond offering a max contract to anyone take it (worst case: see Pistons signing Ben Gordon and Charlie V)

they can make trades without the use of the trade machine - in fact they can take on oodles of salary which is a big bargaining advantage

bottom line: I don't see any value in doing something now that you could do better at the end of the year - especially when we've got one last hurrah with this core group left

Celtics were rebuilding team for 22 years. Who wants to go through that again? We finally have a great team with HOF players. This may not be our year as far as championship. But hey, chill and enjoy the ride.
I think I agree with this simply because there are nooooooo guarantees in the nba for rebuilding. It's not like the NFL where they give you a top draft pick for losing, you get a great QB, a favorable schedule, trade down for more picks, and suddenly in two years you're back like the Lions or something.

It's more like the NBA where you lose, you miss out on Tim Duncan, you lose again, you miss out of Durant or Oden. Even if you get Oden he gets hurt. Even if you get CP3 or Howard, they force a trade in a few years. You can't attract free agents cause you're always over the cap, because signing a water boy in the nba puts you over the cap, and actually getting a player gets you close to the luxury tax.

I'd rather sit where I am, pray for a rash of injuries to the other teams to even things out, hope for maybe a trade deadline deal where we can get someone good for pennies on the dollar, and remember I'm watching 3 HOFers on the court together playing ball the right way.
