Uh, I thought we were suppose to get the lesser of the Timberwolves and Clippers draft pick for 2012. However, it seems that they have just traded it away... So what happens? Do we get it in anyways from the Hornets and give them the Clipper top 10 protected pick? Or are we just screwed over?

I mean, it's not a bad pick but... I was really looking forward to the Timberwolve's pick.

We only got the lesser if they were both outside of the top 10 picks.  That would still be in effect no matter who's got their pick.  But I doubt both will be out of the bottom 10 anyway.

Quote
The Los Angeles Clippers' own 2012 first round draft pick to Boston via Oklahoma City (top 10 protected in the 2012 draft, top 10 protected in 2013, top 10 protected in 2014, top 10 protected in 2015 and unprotected in the 2016 Draft). In addition, if the Los Angeles Clippers are required to send their 2012 first round pick pursuant to the above and are also entitled to receive Minnesota's own 2012 first round draft, then Boston via Oklahoma City shall receive the lesser of the Los Angeles Clippers' own 2012 first round pick and Minnesota's own 2012 first round pick. [L.A. Clippers -Oklahoma City, 6/24/2010 and then Boston - Oklahoma City, 2/24/2011]

So we were never going to get the T-wolves pick unless both the t wolves and the clippers were not bottom ten teams and the wolves were slightly better than the clips.

So actually this could help us.

For example, if Clips were 11th and Wolves were #1 (in terms of draft order), we'd get the 11th pick. If Clips were #1 and Wolves were #14, we'd get nothing in 2012. Same if Clips were #1 and Wolves were #2. If Clips were 11th and Wolves had a "good" year and got the 14th pick, we'd get the 14th pick. So with no Wolves pick, there exists no chance of the Clips having the 11th pick but giving us the "lesser" one. Maybe the clips will not gel for part of the shortened season or CP will miss a few games and we'll get pick #11.

We likely get a pick in the 18-23 range from the clippers.

yep.  we'll be drafting two players in the 15-25 range next summer.  yawn.

on the flip side, if danny really likes a guy closer to 15, we might be able to package both of our picks to move up a few slots.

I wonder if Austin will last into the teens.

right now a few mocks have him going later, so it's possible.  as we all know, though, draft stocks can shift a lot based on tourney performances, and austin will probably be in for a decent run with duke.

somebody in another thread mentioned that rondo will be our only big trading chip going into next summer.

it wouldn't shock me, if danny is really enamored with one of the players in the top 5, to see rondo get traded along with our two mid to late first round picks, for a top 5 selection of a guy like barnes, sullinger, jones etc.
