Let's assume that we will not sign Chris Paul, Deron Williams or Dwight Howard.  What other player who will become and unrestricted FA in 2012 is worth a maximum contract? Also, I think Pierce is off the books at the end of 2013. If so, what UFA is worthy of a max deal that season. Seems like Danny should focus on getting two young studs to build the nucleus with Rondo, and Pierce (maybe even Ray and KG) can be supporting players.  Pierce may still be able to start then.  Just seems like if Danny can play his cards right, and some really good talent is becoming available, we should have some very interesting opportunities.

Way too early to start this topic. Im just excited to start this season. I get the whole plan for the future talk. But we have 3 hall of fame locks on our team and a point guard who could end up getting there as well... Lets enjoy the last part of their career before we start thinking about the 2013 offseason.

The free agency free for all that occurred in the year of Bron, Bosh, Amare, Boozer, etc... is a once in a decade spectacle at best.  There's few top players that hit the league each year so as they become eligible for free agency, many of them are signed past that point so the teams won't lose them.  Any team hoping to build through free agency is chasing fool's gold IMHO.

Teams are better off going Danny's route (building through acquiring assets and trading them for talent) or hitting it lucky in the lottery when a great player(s) is available.  Better to be in the lottery the year of a Lebron than a year of a Bargnani.

2012 Free Agents at the moment

http://www.hoopsworld.com/2012-nba-free-agents/

Beyond Howard, Paul and Williams there aren't any legitimate stars.

There are alot of older point guards that will be available (Nash, Felton, Kidd, Miller, billups), but we likely are covered there with Rondo.

As for Shooting guards Eric Gordon and OJ Mayo are the best of a weak crop and both are restricted..  Clippers are cheap so perhaps we could make a big offer for him...  Other than that Ray Allen is the best out there.

Small Forward: Nothing there stands out.  Jeff Green would be the best perhaps a Batum... We'd need to resign him or do a sign and trade with Green..

PF: Kevin Love sticks out but he is restricted so Minny would match anything there. KG, Duncan etc..  Nothing good.

C: After Dwight most are restricted like Lopez Hibbert.   I think Asik of Chicago could be a good guy to go after.

Overall though seems having cap space in 2012 won't be as useful as it was in previous years..  Seems we'll need to shake things up via trades somehow leveraging our cap space and 2 potential 1st round picks.  Seems like this could go a million different ways....

Kaman - for reasonable price + Festus Ezeli with our draft pick. This will solve our C problems for next 2-3 years.
---
Also we need to try SNT Green + pick for Josh Smith. He told he would like to play with Rondo.
---
We need to spend money on Eric Gordon.Mayo is plan B.
---
So we will have Rondo-Gordon(Ray)-Pierce(Smoove)-Smoove(KG,JJJ)-Kaman(Ezeli).

i like the idea of getting jsmoove next season if we can work a sign and trade that would be crazy.. but jeff green would really have to step it up this year

He seems like a smart guy.And really good player. If he wont show us what we all want to see from him - he ll become UFA next summer.I really like him.

Anyway we need to hunt for Smoove. He's our type of player.
