What are the chances JaJuan plays well wnough to work his way in to a starting position by the end of the season. He did play 4 years of college, so is particularly seasoned compared to most rookies.
That happening would solve our big man problem big time with KG moving to center.

Slim to none you know doc is not big on rookies but this year with so many back to backs the will get a decent amount of mins on the second night  i dont see him starting this year or next over bass or KG if hes back

Big Baby got minutes his rookie year and way playing in the Playoffs in '08.

With older guys, and all the back to backs... i think he could carve out a nice role. But no way is he starting.

Hopefully JJ can show and do more than Baby did his rookie season. Again Glen Davis played only 15 minutes in 08' Playoffs, thank God!

I see him sitting behind Bass and Wilcox right now which is too bad.

He has 2 routes to the floor this season.

1. Show he's a better defender than Chris Wilcox, or Bass.

2. Show he can play center and protect the rim. He looks young KG skinny so I dont think this one is happening.


Why would Doc play KG at center with JJJ if he already has Bass and Wilcox? The only way Doc plays rooks is if he has no choice. By the way I agree with him because I cant think of one rookie who "got it" from day one on defense since Doc has been here.

Bass and Wilcox will have to show that they are essentially useles on D for this kid to get a shot.

I think he has some legit upside but even I don't think he will start this season unless the rest of our guys are on the IR.

let me ask you this:


when was the last time a rookie drafted late in the first round found his way into the starting lineup of a team that considers itself a championship contender?  particularly a big man?

I'm pretty sure Doc doesn't play rookies. Doc starting rookies is going to be a real stretch.

While I love the optimism surrounding JaJuan Johnson on this blog, I have to say I think some of the expectations to be pretty unrealistic, especially since, I doubt that 95% of the people who are saying JJJ is going to be something have even seen him play a whole college game.

I watched two Purdue games last year and have to say, after watching them, I never thought to myself, "Wow, this Johnson kid or this Moore kid would really make a great pro." Neither seemed to have that type of talent that stood out in a crowd and made either of them, definite NBA players, IMHO.

I really hope that Johnson and Moore can contribute this year. Expecting more than spot minutes and some occasional flashes though, is expecting way too much from either, if you ask me. If either can play as well and contribute as much as Big Baby did his first year, that would make me happy

I see him behind Wilcox & Bass for now....People here sleep on Wilcox & Bass.  These players are upgrades, not pushovers people. If Johnson comes in and earns minutes over either of these 2, Ainge got one helluva steal. 

For now, I'm happy running both Wilcox & Bass out there with the second team.  Huge upgrade from last year.  It's not even close when you add in Keyon Dooling.  Dooling, Daniels, Green, Wilcox & Bass can run with most starters in this league when it comes right down to it.  That's a solid bench and then some.  Extremely excited about this years team.

Doc played Delonte West 13 MPG in his rookie year.
He played Tony Allen 16 MPG in his rookie year.
He played BBD 13 MPG in his rookie year.
He played Al Jefferson 15 MPG in his rookie year.
He played Rajon Rondo 23 MPG in his rookie year.

If JJJ is good enough -- Doc will play him.
