Does anyone know his status?  Is he still with the Cavs?  Seems like he is worth trying to get back for a couple of 2nd round picks (maybe include Moore). He is a legitimate center, could back up O'Neal, knows Celtic system, and was really showing good aptitude picking up our defensive rotations, especially for a rookie. I think he has more value for us than for a team like the Cavs, and therefore would be a good trade target.

I've thought about him as well. He's dealing with a fractured thumb and last i heard was probably going to miss training camp. I think a good option is to use JO (expiring deal), and perhaps a 2nd rd pick or a protected 1st, for Varejao and Semih. However, this will probably have to be done once the Cavs lose a bunch of games and find themselves thinking about  of clearing Varejao's deal off the books for the next few years.

Good question - I'm not clear on why they let him go last year, they seemed so high on him and by most accounts he played pretty well. I wouldn't mind having him back.

Because they thought he was on the verge of having season ending surgery and were already dealing with Shaq and JO. It was deal based out of a need to create roster space.

just for reference, ainge is trying to clear up salary space.

last year, varejao made just under $7.3 million. not cheap.

erden, on the other hand, made just about $473,604.

erden i would not mind, but do not covet. varejao i like, but not at that price.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

  • You say when......
Erdin s a good pickup....t was not smart to dump hm last year for nothing in return...We all now know chandler went to the knicks....that isn't going to help us any, west at pacers....battier n miami..Celts are not going to have it easy this year...A lot of other teams are powerng up, and it seems not many want to come here....I don't like docs style myself, but, he doesn't get hs check from me..! We aren't deep, young, or really athletic..and doc won't play the young guys anyway...unless he had a revelaton lately...! Varajo someone said, he would be extremely welcome, dump Marquise, and try to pool up some $$$ for him...he loves to do the drty work, and he is VERY good at it, rebounds, tip ins..he is always where he should be..!

He broke a finger playing in Europe a couple of weeks ago, just before the lockout terminated.

Erden isn't a NBA rotational player. Bench filler. I doubt he stays around after this season.

I know he's trying to clear cap space. However, he could change that approach depending whether or not he feels he has a realistic shot of getting a max guy. This is something Paul Flannery recently alluded to. Perhaps you might see Ainge be in a position to spread the cap room across multiple players, rather than trying to get the max guy.

Chris Wilcox took his spot. No point in bringing Erden back.

I'd love it

send Cleveland a couple of 2nd round picks, or maybe just the pick they traded to us for Semih and Luke. Semih is a very decent 3rd string center, and he loved to be a Celtic.
