It seems Dalls wants to get under the cap. Trading Haywood would relieve them of 5 more years of Haywood's contract.

In the meantime, JO goes to a contending team with an expiring contract to give Cuban some flexbility for next summer.

Perhaps with Barea and Stevenson being Dalls free agents, we can somehow work them in there as well.

We also get a decent young center in Brendan Haywood. A younger, more athletic Jermaine O'Neal.

Do we really want 5 years of an 'okay' center making too much money. With the other team being Dallas, it would remind me too much of acquiring Raef LaFrentz. I'll take my chances with JO and our cap flexibility next summer.

I am not throwing away this cap flexibility over Brendan Haywood. No way.

yeah, not worth it.  haywood won't make the difference and we don't want to take on his deal when we'll be rebuilding after this season.

Here's my question though. With all this talk about cap flexibility, none of the top free agents want to come here.
Chris Paul - No interest in Boston.
Dwight Howard - No interest in Boston.
Deron Williams - Probably staying in New Jersey.

I say the heck with the cap space, let's put a good team together to contend now.

At least that way, we'll have more than 2 players under contract next season.

Yep. Haywood would've been the best amnesty signing possible if Mavs were dumb enough to let him go, but at his current contract in our situation its a non-starter.

I guess you rate Haywood higher than I do. I know that we may not get much from FA, but with all the flexibility, we would be able to take on a big contract from another team in a trade without having to make salaries match. I have to think there are better options than Haywood out there for something like this.

I'd take a chance on JO before bringing in Haywood.

What people for get is that JO came to the C's with a bad knee, didn't have surgery on it in the off season because he wanted to get in shape. Gets talked into it, and when he did become health, was really good.

Now with some time maybe he's right again. Remember that Grant Hill couldn't make a season, and now he's almost 60 and still is playing at a high level.

I like JO's attitude right now, and if he can stay healthy with limited minutes thats really going to be in our favor.

Trading him just to trade make no sense. West was the better option, that you do, not just to get  a big body, that you can find cheap.
