This might belong in the trade threads and if so, apologies to the mods in advance.

Just a thought about our pursuit of David West,

Could we have a scenario where the Pacers signed West and then traded him to the Celtics with Darren Collison for Rondo, Jeff Green and parts? This assuming the numbers work which should be close. I guess I mean if a team other than the Hornets signs West can they do a sign and trade with that player (West) and add players to the deal? I know Roy just stated in another thread that JO couldnt be retraded from the Hornets with a second player but this is a little different.

It seems like Bird would like to have West and/or Rondo. I dont know if he covets one over the other though, so I am not sure if he would or wouldnt do this deal but I think Danny might like it.

Then we keep JO as an asset for the trade deadline or whatever.

I wouldn't trade Rondo unless we get Chris Paul, Deron Williams, or Dwight Howard.

Jeff Green can't be traded.  And if we wanted West, we should try to get him straight up.

Once again, people need to realize this. Now that we've signed Jeff Green theres a couple month period we have to wait before we can sign him.

You can't sign-and-trade another team's free agent.  Once West was signed by Indy, they'd have to hold on to him for 90 days before trading him again.

Um, I think you mean before we can trade him. I am not sure what is different with him or Big Baby as far as sign and trade. I think that only applies to FA doesnt it? In any case, Green was thrown in more or less figuratively but I get your point.

I wouldn't trade Rondo unless we get Chris Paul, Deron Williams, or Dwight Howard.

I realize we all want these guys but I dont think we have the pieces to get them and Rondo alone aint enough in my opinion. I am not out to trade him necessarily but if Danny has a plan to add Billups or someone else then I can see him doing something if it improves the roster significantly.

Thanks Roy, that is what I was wondering.

Agreed, if that is the bare bones trade. If some adjustments were made then it isnt unworkable IMHO. It was really a question of could 'Indy sign a trade West?' Roy answered it already.

uh oh....maybe trouble brewing. according to stein...

"Sources tell ESPN that Pacers making progress toward two-year, $20M deal with David West thanks to West's stalled sign-and-trade to Boston."

looks as if indiana may change danny's plans.

yep, unless danny pulls something out of his rear at this point, you can book the knicks as winning the atlantic and earning the 3rd seed.

the knicks are better than us at SF, PF, and C already, and if they add crawford and a decent PG off amnesty (e.g. baron davis), they could have an arguably better starting 5.  especially if we're starting chris wilcox for 20 games.

unless of course the nets trade for dwight howard.  then they'll probably win the division.  in which the celtics could actually be 3rd in the division.  seriously.

So, how are the Thunder making out in free agency so far?

"Agent Lance Young confirms David West agrees with Indiana on two-year, $20 million deal: "David is ready to help them win a championship.""

There is no way West honestly said that. At least not without crying.
