  • Rondo = Good
with dooling, bradley, and marquis on board, i don't think we need billups.  we don't need arenas under any circumstances -- he's done.

if DA does some wacky trade involving Rondo where we don't get a really good starting PG back, Billups could be an option.

I'd gamble on Arenas at the minimum.  He's probably a better option than Iverson.

Can't imagine Billups comes here to play behind Ray and Rondo when there are places he could start.

Even at this stage of his career, Billups >>>> Dooling or Bradley.  Quis will be mostly backing up Ray and Pierce, I'd imagine, and he was a huge injury concern even before his neck issue.  If he'd sign for the mini-MLE (or ideally for the vet min), I'd take Billups in a cocaine heartbeat.  I'm sure he'd carve himself out a solid 25 MPG, more when Ray gets a night off for rest.

EDIT: I agree, though - Arenas is done, but worse I don't think he gets that he's done.  He's going to be a nightmare for whatever team signs him.  Dumbest move I can recall was Orlando willingly taking him on, and it wasn't JUST because of his contract.

I think the deal is to get Chauncey and Rip to want to play and contend this year, together, with other guys they like.  They're still getting paid, so they take whatever we have to give FA's to play a platoon/occasional starts and nights off to rest give us this:

Rondo/Chauncey
Ray/Rip Hamilton
Paul/JGreen
West (I dream)/Bass
KG/Wilcox/Sheed

Deep bench:

J3
Moore
Dooling
Quisy
Old Pal Antione! (kinda as a favor, he has heart would know when to use his 6 fouls appropriately, good enough for roster spot 15, right?)

But Arenas is cooked.

billups is better than our other backups, but i don't think he would want to come here to play a backup role, given all that he's put out there in tweets.

Billups could start for a contender in LA or Miami. I'm sure he's going to one of those two.

I like this line up, wont happen. I can't see Billups riding the bench unless its out of revenge and wants an other ring.

Wait! Did you say Sheed???? Did I miss some thing? News to me if he's thinking of coming back. But if he's healthy, he'd be a [dang] tough back up C!

Lots and lots of talk about the mini mid level. I think danny may save it to get the best of the trade deadline buyouts. Just a guess..

Even if we don't *need* Billups we have to consider him just so he doesn't go to Miami or LA. Isn't KG good friends with him?

Billips has always been my dream back up for Rondo.  That said, I am not sure he is ready for a back up role yet.

I wonder whether he could be sold on a platoon/sometimes starter for 24-30 minutes/game?  If so, he could platoon with Rondo for 24 minutes, or start for 30 when Rondo rests.

Hamilton could do the same at SG, and perhaps one could sell the other on the idea.

Then, as we keep dreaming, they both get together for a few beers at Paul's house one night with KG there, and then drunk-dial Sheed and get him to come back as the 3rd string center for old time's sake.

And that team would be the favorite to win it all, I think, which is the only reason it's even remotely possible.

Fun, huh?

Agreed, but we can't even offer Billups that, under the cap teams will be able to bid him off waivers. There's no possibility we can acquire Billups in free-agency.
