Someone went to bed early last night I see.

Doesn't really belong in Celtics Talk though.

-Gasol, bynum, new pick, caracter, ebanks for dwight, hedo, reddick, duhon.
-Exception for Nelson

LA:
Nelson/duhon
Kobe/redick
Hedo/Kapono
Meta/Walton
Howard/FA

Orlando:
Full rebuild. Save TONs of money. Only have Gasol, Daniel Orton, Q-Rich, Bynum, Jason Richardson and Glen Davis signed beyond this season, plus some extra picks. They could flip Gasol (for the Houston package?) to get extra youth.

I have been going back and forth on asking this question, but I have finally hit my wits end in understanding the rules around a trade exception.   I used to think a TE could only be used as a way for an under the cap team to match up salaries with an over-the-cap team.  But since nether Dallas or LA are under the cap, I don't understand how a trade can be made without the requisite 125% salary match.  Is this a new CBA thing -- why does it seem that suddenly any trade can be made using a trade exception.

I cant believe they just dumped Odom... They could have gotten much more value in return no?

Gasol, Bynum, Artest for Howard and Turk. I can see it now.

apparantly Odom didnt want to be there anymore(seemed butthurt over the CP3 trade rumors) so they decided to can him.

hopefully LA doesnt get howard, this just makes the lakers even weaker..

Dallas is getting another big/more depth for the 3/4/5 spot

Kidd/Carter/Odom/Dirk/Haywood with Terry/marion coming off the bench is a nice lineup

not sure how Dwight and Kobe will work...

i dont even think they can contend with just those 2...not to mention having no cap room to sign other quality players...

Kobe is getting old and when he retires, Dwight will be all alone

Yeah, seems weird, but I will take L.A. dumping players for really really low first round picks. I know Odom isn't amazing, but he was certainly a solid player and a pretty important part of their team...and could have been an important part of another trade.

Kobe and Shaq worked out very well for a while. When Kobe retires I'm sure that LA will have no trouble attracting good FA's to play with Dwight.

sounds like Odom wanted to move on, and he is a bit of a headcase, so maybe they just didn't have much choice. Gasol's confidence seems to be shot too, I think he needs a change of scenery.

Yes they get rid of Odom.  But LA with all it's glitter can rebuild with Free Agents in a heartbeat.

it would seem to me the pick is there to include for a Chris Paul package. I for one strongly believe that Dwight Howard doesn't go anywhere till post all star break. the extra pick to New Orleans sans odom will also alleviate cap issues for them. I  see Kobe and Howard working well together..what i foresee as a nightmare at least early on is Chris Paul and Kobe together. Kobe aint ready to give up the rock and Paul is going to need to dominate the ball much more than Kobe is used to. The lakers haven't had a point guard in over a decade this is going to be a tuff adjustment for an aging star with an ego bigger than the city he lives in.

LA is going to have a lot of problems with their new coach.  Kobe is the new coach, Mike Brown defers to his stars.  LeBron made him what he is not vice versa.

Odom or no Odom it's less length to bother us.

I think it went like this:

-NY trades Turiaf to Washington (who was under the cap) and amnesties billups. So NY is under the cap.

-Dallas S+T Chandler to NY into their capspace and in return gets a trade exception the size of chandler's contract. (as a reminder, for a trade exception, the entire player's salary must fit in, not 125%).

-Dallas then trades a pick and their trade exception from NY/Chandler deal for Odom.

So i think you are right about exceptions, but probably didn't realize that Dallas got the exception from NY?

Lakers has just lost their versatility. I'm happy
